my buddy has a 1990 gmc 1500 4x4 with 350 and auto trans (not exactly sure what one) but this is our problem.. he was getting on the gas hard spinning both 33s and then at about 40km/h the carrier in rear diff broke into like 30 pieces.. didnt lock up or anything. but now that its fixed with a new carrier the truck will not shift out of 1st.. not even if he manual shifts it.. we need it fixed by the weekend lol.. also when he lets off the gas it just free wheels as if hes in neutral, no "engine braking"

one guy suggested the vss on the t-case..

Pop out the governor on the left rear of the transmission and see if the plastic gear is broke off. If it is, you can either replace the gear or the whole governor.

The governor gover is the round sheet metal cover that is about 3" around. Use a big screwdriver and a hammer to gently tap the cover out of the case, then just pull out the governor while twisting it.

I did the EXACT same thing in my 89 K-5, I broke one of the
carrier bearings inside trans. full rebuild for me, hope yours
turns out better...

Was yours a gov-bomb, too??

the band is not applying or the second gear sprag broke when the rear end blew up.. its got to come apart

will i beable to just drop the pan or... tranny needs to come out its my truck btw

Have you looked at the Governor yet? It is a five minute fix if that is what is wrong.


The 93 Jimmy is has a 4l60e more than likely, that is the switch over year, and I haven't seen a S10/15 in 93 that was a 700. Most internal parts will swap.

I bought a Suburban a few years back for way cheap because it only had first and reverse, 5 minutes later I was on the road and been driving it ever since.

well the tranny we got was to new soo.... not going to the meet...witht he truck anyways haha will eventually get a rebilld and its getting a solid axel swap and a bit of a lift hehe
