: Which GN Hitch should i get?
Dust Puppy 02-26-2009, 02:09 PM Ok i need the might of the pbb mind!
I just happened across a GN trailer for a price i just CANT! pass up, you know one of those situations where you get a phone call and you just cant say no. Only problem is the trailer is being dropped off tonight hopefully and i dont have a hitch yet. I have not had much time to research which hitch would be right for me..... so i figured i would ask here before i made an impulse buy. I cant wait too long cause i cant leave it sitting on the street long!
here's the setup.....
99 F350 4Dr long bed Dually 4x4 the weight rating of the truck was up'd when i bought it from 10k to 12k (boy does that add some cash to the tag re-ups)
24 ft utilty gn 14k rated.
haul'n plans.....
setup 1:
2 TJ's stock wheel base not a whole lot of extra weight over stock
setup 2:
1 stock wheel base tj not a whole lot of extra weight
AND
1 Rockwell buggy probably gonna weight in somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-6k+ lbs
so what would be the best hitch to go with? I would like something i dont have to drill only because i dont have a WHOLE lot of time on my hands here lately. I would like something that doesnt kill my storage so a removable ball or a flip ball or something would be a bonus. Whats the best hitch?
ive been looking hitches everywhere from 300 bucks to 500 bucks. i dont mind overkill or the "incase shit" mentality either.
thanks!

A few weeks ago at one of our shops they were running a sale for 299.00 installed.
Fool Injected 02-26-2009, 02:31 PM B&W
As if there are any other hitches out there, LOL.:shaking:
chzbrgr 02-26-2009, 02:33 PM B&W is it. We have 4 of them. They even have a 5th wheel adapter that pins in place of the ball.
haulin87 02-26-2009, 02:37 PM I built my own turn over.....buy B&W, simple, cheap and lots of options.
Dust Puppy 02-26-2009, 02:41 PM link?
are there different weight ratings or is there just one we are talkin about?
thanks

30,000lbs.
Dust Puppy 02-27-2009, 11:32 AM thanks for the help guys. im pretty sure the the guy who dropd the trailer off was running the same hitch. i checked out their site and one of the distributors was the place he got the trailer from. he told me he had them setup the whole package for him.
here is a pic of the trailer. my only concern is how close the trailer is to the back of the truck when he dropd it off he barely had enough room to get the tailgate to drop. is that going to be an issue?
i just backed the truck under the trailer last night so that hopefully i can get away with it sitting on the street for a few days without the city flip'n out.

Mechanos 02-27-2009, 12:04 PM I have just enough room to drop the tailgate on my '01 when hitched up to my GN. Once the gate is up, clearance is not an issue. I would have to jackknife the trailer about 110° to 115° before any part of the trailer would start fighting with the bed.
chzbrgr 02-27-2009, 12:05 PM I don't recall the '99. Our '05 could be mounted in two places. The rear position seemed slightly behind center of the axle, front position was about 4" ahead of that. We opted for the forward position. No clearance problems with either of our GN's. One is a CornPro the other is a Big Tex dump.
jasonmt 02-27-2009, 12:38 PM If you only ever plan on a goose: B&W Turnover.
If you plan on running a fifth and a goose: Hijacker.
mrstang01 03-01-2009, 11:02 AM Why not just run the B&W with the Companion, what does the Hijacker offer?
Hyena 03-02-2009, 02:07 PM Have a B&W on my ford and love it!
jasonmt 03-02-2009, 02:29 PM Why not just run the B&W with the Companion, what does the Hijacker offer?
We have the B&W turnover and companion in a Chev 2500 and a Hijacker slider 5th & goose in a 3500 Dodge; if you end up towing a lot of different 5th wheel trailers the B&W Companion lacks the range of adjustability and weight capacity that the Hijacker sliders offer.
We have also had a few issues with the ubolts and other fasteners on the B&W Companion
mrstang01 03-02-2009, 04:50 PM Now that's good info. Thanks, I'm in the process of adding a hitch. I imagine most of mine will be GN, so will probably go with the B&W, but I could see a reason for the Hijacker.
Dust Puppy 03-09-2009, 08:10 AM Well i just wanted to thank everyone the help! I picked up a hitch locally from a buddy of mine. They had an older version of the B&W 1108 that was designed directly for my truck (the 1108 has just been upgraded to fit newer trucks). I guess it had been sitting there for YEARS!!! so i got a SWEEEET deal on it. Installed it over the weekend and hooked up to the trailer! it pulls really really nice, my only disappointment was that the plug was wired wrong so my brakes didnt work. I decided not to do a test pull with a load until i get the wiring working.... better safe then "OH SHIT!!!!"
The jeep only hangs off the back like 32" I can pull the spare off the other and get about 12 of that back if need be. but i think its fine as long as the weight is in the right place.
The only thing i have left to figure out is where and how to mount a trailer plug in the bed of the truck....

12valve 03-09-2009, 01:37 PM Glad you got the B&W. I worked at a dealership and installed those. B&W does a great job on there hitches. The 1108 is the newest version of the hitch for the superduty. It will fit any superduty long or shortbox. If you upgrade trucks in the future the center section will be the same ( part# 800) and you can get the newer rail kit. I changed jobs before the 08 fords came into our shop so I'm not sure of the changes but it maybe possible to modify it. The installs on these hitches are easy. Your truck looks clean and should have been really easy. Some with a bent floor require some beating to make them fit. The first time may take you about 4 hours. I had alot of tricks and could do a super in an hour and one day everything went right and I did one in 40 mins. Anyone with a newer dodge should look to B&W. Most other hitches require drilling the frame. With the rectangle tube frame, you have to pull bolts through the frame with a long fishing wire. It's a pain in the butt. I helped a buddy do a reese sliding 5th wheel it took 9 hours, the first time. The only special tool you need is a 4" metal hole saw. I sold alot of hitches to guys and I cut the hole for them to get their business. Hope this helps anyone shopping for a GN hitch.

In relation to the rear axle, where did you cut the 4" hole?
thanks,
Al
Dust Puppy 03-09-2009, 07:25 PM the directions for the one i have (not sure if its the same as the 1108) says 46" from the lip of the bed to the center of the hole for short beds and 49 for long beds.
i did mine at 46 which put me just a few inches ahead of the axle. if i had gone to 49 my trailer would have hit the truck.
