: Whining abou my Pickup.......Need to sell, how much to ask?

I've got an old pickup that I need to sell/trade for something with room ('burb, crewcab, etc.). I've been trying to sell it for about 6 months (kind of seriously) and am getting no offers. Is my price way high? I figured you guys would give me enough shit for my JU post, but I'd probably get a solid opinion.

NEW Sheetmetal--truck prof. reconstructed '97-'98 (only sheetmetal that's original is the firewall, roof, A & B pillars, rear bulkhead and trans tunnel), painted with DuPont Chromabase/Chromaclear.

402 Big Block Chev...not rebuilt, but runs good, doesn't smoke leaks a little from the distributor (I'll fix that PDQ)

T350 Trans--Rebuilt about a year ago--3000 miles on it

205 transfer case--Rarely shifted into 4WD, but looks like it's been rebuilt recently (nice paint anyway) and seems solid

D44/14 Bolt--4.11 gears, rebuilt the D44 (new bearings and seals where needed, u-joints, brakes, etc.)--haven't touched the 14 bolt except to check the fluid

Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires, AR Baja wheels--305 70 16--Not exactly wheeling tires, but good road tire and fair off-road (at least where it will go) I don't like to scratch the truck up. At least 60% tread--more like 70-75% but I'm kind of mentally beating it up

Spray in bedliner, new weatherstripping, recovered seat, new carpet, CD player....blah, blah....

I'm asking $4900 for it and just kind of want to know if that's too much or what? It's been on the street for a couple of weeks and I haven't even gotten one call.

here's a pic....http://home.att.net/~marc.marnie.bryson/77GMC.jpg

Fire away...........Did I find some nice doobage to smoke or what?

What year is it? How many miles on the truck?

Sorry, It's a '77 GMC and I'm not exactly sure how many miles are on it. The odometer shows 58K or so, but that could be 158K or 258K, I really don't know. Everything that doesn't act acceptably for safe operation has been replaced.

For this economy, that's kind of a lot. The truck is worth that looks like, hard to tell without a good once-over.

Trouble with a truck that old in that kind of condition, it's only worth that much to someone who would appreciate it. So in the end you're just stuck with a 25 year old truck in good condition.

But to some responsible kid who needs reliable transportation, that truck is worth every cent. Or a retiree.

You just haven't found your buyer yet sounds like.

*edit* Fawk that, that truck is worth every dime. You've spent a lot of time and money on that, surmising from the picture and the language of your original post.

Put it in truck trader and don't take a dime less than what YOU think it's worth, if you can afford to do that.

Hell I don't even like GM stuff, and that's a fine machine.

replace the front grill with one of those round or square tube chrome (yeah I said chrome) ones and remove the bumperettes and you'll get some calls....thing is it looks like every other chevy with a paintjob...

you need to get the chance to "sell it" and that means talking to people and that means they gotta see it...and like it

most people don't know wheather to shit or wind thier watch...so yyou need toi get the chance to tell them why its different than any other old chevy

I agree with everyone... looks like a nice truck, looks taken care of and I don't think your asking too much. Not exactly a steal but its a fair price. If it was mine i'd prolly post 4900, but take 4500.

It's a big block Chev. and it marks it's territory:flipoff2: That picture, the leaks are from the transmission--rebuild took care of the leaks. I did have a small leak from the oil pressure sending unit recently, tightening the fitting did wonderful things, but I'm still leaking a little (quarter size after 20 mile drive or so) and the only gasket that I haven't replaced recently on the back of the engine is the one under the distributor.

It got up to $2800 or so. I had a reserve at $4200, so it didn't sell.
