Maybe its all the sand storms that have me cooped up right now but im seriously considering trading my 12v in for A) a newer like 04-05ish ram with 6speed or B) trading straight across for a 97-99 12v or 24v 5 speed truck if I could find one with similar options. What do you guys think? Whats my truck worth? I have title in hand so that's not a problem, Maybe I'm so bored here I'm forgetting how much i love my truck.:(

I'd have to say keep it. Spend your $$ on something else.

I'm guessing yours is an auto, and in that case, you'll likely never get someone to trade you across for a 5 speed.

If you like the truck, and can afford to have it down for a bit, swap a stick in. If not, put it on CL and buy a hand shaker truck. Keep in mind, diesels are still a bit of a hard sell due to $5 a gallon not long ago. Advertise the mileage.

A 03-07 CR is a new truck, but please dont get rid of your 12v for a 24v vp-44, youll be pissed.

If I were you Id spend a couple grand and get a good tranny in there or swap it out for a nv4500.

Dude, you're just bored. I know the auto thing is a PITA. Manual trannies have there issues too and clutches ain't cheap. Go for a aftermarket unit and never look back. You already know you like your truck and you know it's history, use and maintenance schedule.

Believe me, I damn near sold my truck, my scout, and my house while I was over there. Just do research, and bench build yours to pass the time instead of looking for trades!!

Anyways, good luck and stay safe.

What's your reasoning for wanting to trade? Bored with what you have? Scared of the automatic tranny (assuming that is what you have since you didn't specify)?

If you're bored with what you have I can understand that and would say get whatever you think you want.

I could understand the interest in trading for a 5 or 6 speed truck if the vehicle is primarily a tow rig, but other than that I don't think it would be worth trading for and/or owning a manual tranny truck unless you just really want one that bad. I think the biggest detriment to the automatic transmission equipped trucks is the owners and their lack of knowledge on how they work.

I think that's a pretty nice looking truck. If you decide to trade I would suggest staying with the 12v or find a good deal on an 03 or 04. I have had very good luck with my 04 HO 555 with a 6spd. I towed 18k with it daily and my clutch lasted until 150k. I also had a 2001 24v that I enjoyed until I sold it with 187k. In my opinion both are great trucks, but if I had to decide I would easily choose the 04. The interior is way more comfortable, stronger stock engine, and my 04 3500 had better fuel economy than my 01 2500.

Yes I have an auto, With a mildly built 47 re, valve body and ats 5 disk TC. there are definitely a few things I would like to address on my truck, Cause its not that I don't love it, its prety much everything I ever wanted in a truck, but here are some of my issues.
I need new seats, bad. Previous owner did some funky custom lumbar things in the seats and It hurts my back after a while, And i would love to have a center console, and leather, and my fucking arm rests are falling apart.
If I could find a kit to swap in a 5600 I would in a second, I have a fly wheel and bell housing all ready.
I need to fix my steering, my truck is like trying to drive a boat that hasn't planed out, the steering wheel has about 40* of play in it left and right of center. and Id like a bit more power, Im sitting at about 300 right now, on a stock turbo, and stock gov springs. not sure on my injector or plunger size, I just don't remember off the top of my head. But the pump is mild with a 00 plate and a few other things 5in exhaust, and a very cool custom cold air intake that replaces the plastic piece between the windshield and hood and make like a small ram air scoop, I wish I new the name of it, previous owner installed it.
And I need a gooseneck hitch, Hopefully a head ache bar too.

you'ld be a fool to go in debt for a newer truck. fix the 12v

Take your down time and write out a plan for changing out the seats and upgrading the interior. You can play interior designer and not feel :rainbow:.
Since you are posting we know you have internet access, take your list and find the parts you need/want and set up a shopping list so you know what your budget should be. Two other quick things:
1.:zzz::girly: three things that help pass the time

2.DO NOT SELL YOUR TRUCK YOU WILL REGRET IT!

I was in the same boat you were. I found a newer style cab and threw it on my truck. That's a good looking truck tho, you know exactly the goods and bads of the truck, and you know it was maintained. Keep it. If you want a manual, I did a manual swap in my black diesel -- not too bad at all. In fact, the hardest part was cutting out the damn floorboard. You can piece together a manual swap for a few grand, and that includes a GOOD clutch.

I've been one to get bored with things, sell/ part them out and move on. If it means going in debt don't do it.

Sounds like you need some front end parts $100-$1000+ depending on what it is and if you "upgrade" while your at it, interior parts $300-$800 (I just sold a real decent cloth 40/20/40 seat with center councle, back seat, and door pannels out of a '95 for $325), I personally would put a 2500HD seat in it the dodge seats suck, and $2000-$4000 for a manual trans swap,$100-5,000 for more power, so between $3,0000-$10,000+ to get your truck up to your standards.

I can definetly understand not wanting to put $ into an older truck when you could buy a newer truck that has almost everything you want in it. It would be a tough decision for me to make.

on that note should I even fuck with a manual swap or just drop the 3K on a built suncoast or ATS auto and be done with it? PLanning on the 4k gov spring mod sometime too.

WTF?

My vote is no. I believe you said you had a VB & TC in a rebuilt trans now (I'll assume it works fine and has no problems now). If you're only towing a single rig and not dragging or sled pulling with it that setup should last a good long while.

You've got the best 12v truck made ( the 98 qc sb). Nothing else out there will ever do everything that this truck does (comfortable, reliable, great fuel mileage, great power, relatively inexpesive). Throw your money at interior mods; some mild performance mods (such as the 4kgsk), not new truck payments, and enjoy. when (if) the tranny goes, drop a full goerend, DTT, or suncoast tranny in and forget it for another 100k miles.

Yea, go get you some injectors like a 370 sized one, but with the correct spray angle, a hx40 turbo or s300 turbo, 3k or 4k gsk (youll need 60lbs springs with those), O and 2 free mods, take out or grind your fuel plate and adjust your AFC wheel.

If you like a stick, you'll never be happy with an auto, don't care how rock solid it is. I love my truck, but I can't stand the auto. It's tight as can be, and I don't tow hardly enough to worry about it, but I just miss changing gears. That's your decider, honestly. You can make an auto just as reliable now a days.

He won't need valve springs with just a 3k gsk.

If he's looking for more towing power and has the time to sit down and read, I'd suggest by perusing this compilation of p-pump tuning info:

http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14085

IMHO a set of stock injectors will be more than enough unless he wants to get crazy. You can make plenty of power with them if it is properly tuned. I also don't think a 4k gsk set is needed either. Remember, this is a 12 valve motor and the power is made down low, not up top.

Set up the AFC to allow full rack travel and use a 2095 rack plug since it sounds like he has a 180 horse pump (do not use it if it is a 215 pump). No plate is needed either, so you can just pull it and set it aside (the rack plug will stop it). Last but not least, advance the pump timing a bit.
