I was not real familiar with commercial pallet racks until i started looking-but think they will work out great. I have been looking for a while and finally pulled the trigger on some nice 12' tall pallet shelves. They are standard 42" deep, 12' tall and the beams are 8' wide.. Each pair of beams is rated at 4200 pounds-they are husky brand and I have 2500 pound wire decking on its way.

I paid $850 for 15 upright sections, and 50 beams which is more than reasonable....the wire decks run about $10-20 each depending on type and is used or new. I needed 2 wire decks for each set of beams. Its should solve a large portion of my storage problems, and my little forklift (forks on terramite) reaches the 1st shelf no problem. Also-all the space above my existing cabinets was just wasted space anyway.

Something to think about if you are looking for more space...This is just my residential garage at my house-but will serve its purpose well. I am just using them for general storage but it will be nice to know I can throw an engine or transmission on a pallet and stick them up there if needed.

That is a good idea but all to often I have seen people get more things for just a few days which turns into months or longer.

Making it a real project of moving things around just to get at the pallet racks. you will be amazed how fast garages fill up.We found out at work pallet racks were more trouble than they were worth

If you can keep the space clear i wish you well

 Good luck

I have 2 pallet racks myself (both 4' x 8', with a middle shelf and a top shelf). I opted not to put the bottom shelf on, instead I bolted the legs to the slab. That way I can roll a loaded engine stand and whatever else under there without having to lift it up on the rack. I think they're well worth the money for the space gained - great place to put seats, doors, door panels, interior panels, and other big parts that would normally take up an entire shelf by itself on a regular shelving system.

That's a good deal for all those racks. I paid $100/ea for mine.

I hear you on the moving crap to get at the space...but i will say that 95% of my stuff can be accessed and moved by hand....and the guy through in one of those rolling step ladders. I part out Jeeps and just need the space for seats, dashes, body parts, wiring harnesses, misc stuff ect...

I use those racks myself... The perimeter of my little 20x24 shed is filled with them and I put more in my FIL's shop... Still have more just sitting outside...

But I spent $10 on all of mine...

Well-its hard to beat that price-I have been looking for a while-that was the best I could do locally. I should have some sections left over after I am done to get some $$$ return-but not much.

That stuff is great. I have a friend who used it to put a mezzanine in his rented storage unit 8' up so he can pull a vehicle in under it and still has enough room to walk around on top of it. Good find.
