: Thank you for all the volunteers in KOH
surveyboy 03-01-2009, 09:37 PM real quick,
just want to have a huge thank you to everyone that stuck it out there on race day and ran the checkpoints, film crews, First aid people and Recovery crews.
people told me i did a great job friday. all i did was sit by a truck and work on a radio all day. the people that did really good were the guys and gals out there on the course trying to not get run over and keep spectators safe and get each and every racer accounted for and back to camp, or their crew to them..... which we did eventually. I swear we lost Drew (car 5) for a few hours out there LOL.
I can't thank you guys enough.
I hope that through it all, you all had some fun and got to be part of a pretty damn good race.
also, I want to thank the vendors who stepped up this year and helped us give away stuff to our volunteers. Viking Products (winchline.com), PolyPerformance, UDS, CTM, Superior axle, Raceline wheels, Readywelder, Rock something (i can't remember the name dang it), and some others (Blaine, please fill in the ones i have missed, who we owe a bit a gratitude to directly for hooking us up with cool stuff!)
Thanks
Shaun
EarlKann 03-01-2009, 09:44 PM We enjoyed doing it.

Tech Tim 03-02-2009, 09:29 AM Shaun,
You put in some huuuge time to help out at that race, sitting on the back of the truck running the "BASE" in the blazin sun, trying to keep everything rolling smooth, must have been tiring.
I am sure Dave and Jeff thanked you, I would like to add my thanks in there too and that goes to all the volunteers, without you guys this race wouldn't happen.

Thanks Tim.
I'm just a dude that sat around all day though :)
I think i had the easiest job of everyone.
I do know i'd gotten a bunch of sun friday. for a while i was a little loopy talkin on the radio
another guy who hasn't recieved much credit was Mr. Relay. Wild Bill sat on that ridge all day long relaying information from the far reaches of the desert for me.
there would still be people stuck out at aftershock if it weren't for his help.
I owe that man a few beers again after this year!
you did a good job announcing yourself Tim.
of course i didn't reconize you at first LOL
Soundguy 03-02-2009, 10:08 AM I'm horrible with names but I met a ton of people out there that were busting their asses to make this thing happen. To everyone who pitched in and helped me with audio, I appreciate it all very much. :)

you should have bagged it up and sold it to some of the folks back there as 'magic sand' :D

Fixed it for you:shaking:
You guys did great out there. I know how chaotic it can be from helping the previous years. I just hope they vote some of you in again next year.
I can't even imagine how much time was spent laying out course markers...we preran the first 23 miles in areas I have never seen before without GPS help, all on the markers. Excellent job. There were a few casualties to the wind, but that's gonna happen out there.

Great job on the course marking and a special thanks for the :skull::skull::skull: signs!!!
Can't wait till next year!
TurtleTruck 03-02-2009, 01:17 PM Thanks to Shaun and all the other volunteers for an awesome event!
Here is a repost of my thanks in the KOH forum:
I want to thank my Film Transport crew for an awesome job!
All assignments were executed on time and with minimum supervision. When necessary they improvised and made the right decisions. You guys are the best!
Pinned TV got over 150 hours of footage! They couldn't say enough about how great their transport guys were! There is talk of a feature length film (look out "Dust to Glory")...
Unit 1 Keith George (Means Butte, Top of Outer Limits, Top of Wrecking Ball)
Unit 2 Mark Matthews (Me) (Melville Dry Lake and vicinity, Bart's Chin, Jack Hammer)
Unit 3 Steve Bennett (Rocky Point west of Melville, Truckhaven area, Resolution, Sledge Hammer)
Unit 4 Danny Grimes (Ridge above Melville, Rocky/Sandy Hill Climb, Backdoor)
Unit 5 Mike Opper (Start, Backside of Pummel Pass Dune, Devil's Slide/Bottom of Sunbonnet Pass)
Unit 6 Josh Glasser (Bottom of Aftershock, Bottom of Big Johnson, Sledgehammer)
Unit 7 Martin Pierce (Top of Aftershock, Claw Hammer, Home Stretch)
Unit 8 Greg Weirick (Start, BFG Pits, Cal Rocks Pits)
Aaron Beckstead was assigned to Safety/First Aid and escorted an Ambulance in case they needed his 4 seat buggy to respond into a canyon. Thanks Aaron! You had a very important task that thankfully turned out to be very boring! Aaron deserved a rest after working all day and half the night doing tech inspection on Thursday.
Thanks again guys.
I want to thank the Pinned crew for being so great to work with. They were outstanding and professional in every way!
I also want to thank Dave for his VERY accurate estimates of the times we needed to be around the course. Dave was only off by 5 minutes on the arrival of the first cars to the bottom of Aftershock! Amazing! Dave also was able to see the big picture on camera movement and made my job much easier. I could not have done it without him.
Jeff came up with an outstanding course that was very tough, but enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike!
Thanks Dave and Jeff for and awesome event!

Thank you volunteers and vendors! Seriously amazing group of volunteers for KOH! I can't say enough about how truly awesome it was to watch all of you work together to make this event such a huge success. It makes me proud to know so many of you and to have watched you shine under so much pressure. :D
Shaun, you did a tremendous job helping out for this event...don't let anybody tell you any different. I also want to mention what a fantastic job Roxy did with registration as well as in getting the competitors lined up for the LCQ and the KOH race. Mr. Roxy, Jeepskickass, BRD, Paul Gagnon, Dave Cole, Dave's mom, Jeff Knoll, Jeff's mom, Lance and Camo (and so many more people) really need to be thanked too for all of their hard work and running around to make this such a successful event. Thanks so much guys/gals!:D
jimmyrig 03-02-2009, 02:10 PM Had a blast once again! Look forward to next year.
KrustyKruiser 03-02-2009, 02:15 PM The volunteers did a great job and had their work cut out for them. The attendance was phenomenal.
Danger Ranger 03-02-2009, 02:56 PM I had a great time and loved every minute of it. I'm glad I had a un-eventfull day on friday escorting the ambulance around ;) It's funny though... I won a winch rope at the volunteer raffle and then proceeded to use it friday night sweeping Jack and Sledge. Fawk those trails were tore up... but I walked the plaque line on sledge :lmao: :flipoff2:

desertPOS 03-02-2009, 11:57 PM Fawk those trails were tore up... but I walked the plaque line on sledge :lmao: :flipoff2:
Speaking of the plaque line - I heard that it was ripped off by a tire during the comp, and that a spectator ran down and put it in his backpack. Was it ever returned, or was it stolen!?

Ah shit... it was dark by the time we came down sledge and got to the rig being welded on. Then we turned around and went back up sledge and I can't honestly say if I remember looking at the plaque or not... I sure hope that story isn't true :(
Paul Gagnon 03-03-2009, 01:49 PM least the winch rope when to somebody who will certainly use it :D
Probably should have given him some outriggers.
