: Problems on the con....
crash 08-26-2002, 11:11 PM Well, last week was my first trip(19 hour drive) to the con, and all i gotta say, you guys who live close, I hope you don't take what you have to play on for granted. Well, the first problem we encountered, was the bear problem, thought ot myself, NO way, bears, HA!!! WEll, second night, I lost all my food, but luckly my buddy toyman fed me.... On the way out on tuesday, about 10 minutes past the box torwards loon, run across this young kid and his mom, it seams he was all BY HIMSELF and broken, it seams he had broke a front passenger shaft "BEFORE", yes, before he even entered the trail(JACKASS) and near the box he broke the driveshaft, and when we met him he was on his way out, and stuck..

So we start trying to stack rocks to get him unhung(and at that point i had to give him the lecture of not wheeling alone, and his mom who was there), this guy, who i guess takes people down the con for $$ comes up with like 4 rigs, looks around at the scenario, and says "who move that rock", a rock in the fawkin middle of the trail, ya know, round, and will move DUH!! Of course, the smart ass I am, said it was me, and he then goes on to say that rock wasn't ther last time, bla bla, and goes with the "I AM BETTER THAN YOU" crap attitude, no prob, now this is where it gets interesting...
Instead of hooking a cable up the kid and helping the driver side tire to get over the rock thats in front of it(the one that has the broken shaft), the dude starts grabbing chains and suck, and starts to winch the fawking rock, of course I had to ask why the hell he didn't do what I WAS ABOUT to do and pull the kid over the rock..

Now to me, that was plain stupid.. I wasn't really sure if i was going to make this post but figured it had to be said...
Sillyneck 08-26-2002, 11:15 PM wow. I'd put a tire on his hood (the loud mouth guy) and then piss on his windshield...then continue over his bucket :D
71RCKCRZR RYAN 08-26-2002, 11:25 PM IVE SEEN THAT CHEVY AT THE CON BEFORE WITH A BROKEN REAR SHAFT......HE WAS ALONE THAT TIME TOO.
crash 08-26-2002, 11:34 PM WAs that on sunday?
SJ410Bark 08-27-2002, 01:26 AM WTF, he was all pissy cause you moved a rock?? They move the rocks in "lil sluice" all the time, no one is upset by that. Fawk that guy. He doesn't own the trail.

No shiat! Moved from CA to TX where there are no public lands to wheel on. The drive from SoCal to the Con wasn't that bad after all. I miss it!
71RCKCRZR RYAN 08-27-2002, 02:50 PM NO IT WAS LIKE A MONTH OTR TWO AGO

Not only that but then what'd he do...... hook his winch up to a rock and move it. The winch is to get you over obstacles, not to move the obstacle so the soccer mom behind you can now drive through. I bet his back seat was loaded with dynamite for the larger rocks they would encounter. Dumb fawker:mad: There is a lot of stuff going on at trails all around our area. Our local wheeling spot is now patroled by two rangers on quads, writing tickets for anything and everything.
Ps, I probably would have wanted to do the Sillyneck method of anger management.. not that it is the right thing to do either.
-The kid shouldn't have been there either.
RockHound 08-27-2002, 04:33 PM well I was there stacking rocks with crash and toyman trying to get this kid and his mom on there way and off the trail before night fall. He was unprepared and I think this was an eyeopening experience for him. The guy Harold did not need to be moving any rocks the kid was fine the way he was he was not blocking the trail for ABC 4x4 Rentals in anyway. Not only that but his approach on moving this rock seemed dangerous to me by slinging it with chain till it slipped out then re-slinging it again. It is amazing no one got hurt during this rescue rangers heroic measures.
Crash it was nice meeting you guys and watching you all gettin it!!
P S HAROLD LEAVE THE TRAIL THE WAY YOU FIND IT!!!:mad3:
ROCK HUGGER 08-27-2002, 05:12 PM I don't under stand why you guys are so mad at this guy for moving the rock back where it was. I see on this board people bitching about people moving rocks to get through. A rock gets moved into the trail so this broke jackass can get through, and everyone bitches about someone moving it back. Go figure:eek:
rockmutt 08-27-2002, 05:16 PM ahhh yes....that dude:rolleyes: we encounter him as well. we saw him just after he did it. (behind the sluice), we could'nt help him so we just moved on:rolleyes:
*chuckle* I see that kid on my local trails alot. He gets stuck often, im wondering why the hell he was on the rubicon. Sorry your trip was funked by this. Some people who wheel there are stupid, or old members of the sierra club. "Oh no! Dont move that rock by turning on the top of it! You will make water runoff take a diffrent direction and distroy a spotted owl's home!" hehe
You learn to give the Pirate salute alot up there. Hope to see you up there somtime when i get a rubicon trip together with local wheelers.

Told ya i was going to post this,lol.....
Ya, it was really neat to meet some new people that I have been talking to here for ever...
As for rockhugger, you dumbass, the guy was NOT PUTTING the rock back, he was moving it FROM ITS ORIGIONAL SPOT!!!!!
Gordon 08-27-2002, 08:47 PM I guess the bears were pretty bad at Spider lake this last weekend. I went in and out on Monday and brought in a steering box for somebody that was broke. Everyone I talked to that was coming out said every camp up there got hit multiple times on Sunday night. I guess I am glad I don't usually camp there anymore. All the people I met on the trail were very nice and cosiderate and Treading Lightly. The only person that needs an ass whoopin is the guy that left all 24 of his Budweiser cans and both his blown out flip flops up on the slab above the box:( . I only picked up some of them:(. Anyways there were lots of good helpful people on the trail too.
Yea those nice bears are used to raiding your food since they are transplants read "problem bears" from Yosemite and Yellowstone from what the rangers told me 2 weeks back. No matter where you put it in the vehicle they know how to get in even by busting out windows.
I see people on the trail also who I think should not be there, but I just have to live with the stupid things they do also, I do not let it bug me since everything gets moved at one time or another....I am there to have a good time so they are not going to ruin it for me.

A little off topic but I couln't let this pass untouched. Yosemite maybe but Yellowstone no way, no how. A good number of "rangers" like to tell stories just to make the day go by quicker. This sounds to me like one of those.
crash 08-27-2002, 09:34 PM I too heard that story from the locals.. Have you been hit by a bear? I did, and let me tell you, they are very good, and snaky fawkers...

crash 08-27-2002, 09:54 PM Thats funny, the bear dumped my cooler about 4 ft from my tent, ate all of the contents, then walked off to eat my action packer and the contents, and i didn't hear a peep(And i am the type to wake up with somebody snoring).
Oh, and jimmy, someboddy needs to glue your pssssst psssst switchs to the ON position :flipoff2:
SeaBass44 08-27-2002, 10:27 PM must be transplants from "JellyStone", they love pick-a-nick baskets!:flipoff2:

That funny. Two weeks ago I questioned the ranger on that exact topic. He told me, no way, the bears are locals. I hate the bears. I have had too many uncomfortable situations with them, but none at the Con so far. Like JiMMy said, I park on the granite, and slide my packers/coolers under my rig. It makes a LOT of noise in the middle of the night when they slide them out. Keep that stuff as far away from you as you can at night, nothing like bear snot on your tent when you wake up!
Jason R 08-27-2002, 10:52 PM Yea me and my buddies were at the Con this weekend and we camped right by Spyder lake. What do we wake up to? ALL of our food was gone, well everything but drinks. So I cooked up the Eggs I had in my other Ice Chest and fed everyone. Damn bears. :flipoff2:
