: I can't drive 55 mph...can you?
TJpwr 08-26-2002, 11:27 PM I guess this question is really aimed at people that tow in Ca but maybe other states too. When I'm towing the Jeep there is just no way that I can go 55 on the open road. It just is way to slow. Most of the time I go about 65 and that feels slow on a road like I-5. So what about the rest of you? How fast do you tow and have you ever got a ticket for towing to fast?
Phil:usa:
The Jerk 08-27-2002, 12:15 AM flat ground im good to go at 65 id go faster if the old truck would pull faster lol. there are some sweet pics of speedoes around 80-100 while people are towing, fun fun! jiMMy
RE:Todd 08-27-2002, 07:44 AM I run between 60-65 when towing. Haven't had any issues with CHP, YET :D .
Last time I towed, I ran 75 all the way there & back. But, Missouri has no lower limit for towing - we can run 70 just like everyone else :)
TEX
dog walker 08-27-2002, 09:40 AM I tow 60-65mph most of the time, unless I'm pulling large grades, then my truck somtimes will only pull 45-50mph anyways.
Travis Waldher 08-27-2002, 09:58 AM I tow about 5 over the limit. Up to 75. Anymore would be suicide in a 14-15,000lb GCVW 1/2 ton truck. :p
jp junkie 08-27-2002, 01:40 PM I got a ticket once while I was towing my junk near Santa Barbara. I was traveling at 65 MPH on a 55 MPH zone. Ticket, cost : 379.00 friken dollars  . You will not catch me doing more than 60 MPH now.
chevota01 08-27-2002, 02:28 PM Had a Dodge 3500 V10. From Bowling Green Ohio to Connecticut--724 miles in 9 hours including a 35 minute stop for lunch. Had a CJ7 with 18' trailer.
Would I do it again??
;) In a heartbeat!
Red Chevy Girl 08-27-2002, 10:50 PM I tend to run about 75 to 80 mph, I haven't had to many run ins with CHP just stay out of that 3rd lane they don't like you over there to much, but i haven't gotten any tickets yet.
payton 08-27-2002, 11:35 PM pullin a 28 foot wells cargo enclosed trailer with a 98 ford stroker..
2 lane highway.. runnin 85 ..
and iwas passin a semi when i got clocked,..

nobody20 08-28-2002, 09:28 AM 98 5.7L ext cab SB chevy with 18 ft 10k rated trailer w/CJ-5. I tow about 70 on two lanes and 75 on Intersates ( about 5 mph above the legal limit in TX). I also use weight distributing hitch, sway control, and double axle electric brakes.
I run in 3rd gear and it suuuucks gas.
With my old 1988 F350, 460, 4x4, 5spd towed the same setup at the same speeds.
Can't wait to get a PSD.
tail_lite 08-28-2002, 03:20 PM I drove from R/C to Reno to the carnage for the 'con at about 53 MPH. Up HWY 395 I came accross 7 or 8 CHP's, and 3 or 4 NHP's.
Good thing I didn't speed , they were looking for anything....
70~K5 08-28-2002, 07:13 PM I run about 58 max. Haven't had a ticket in 8 years. In Kali after your 2nd ticket you lose your good driver discount on insurance. With the discount my insurance is around $5000.00 a year for the big rig truck.
Yet another example of why Cali SUCKS :p
offroadr35 08-29-2002, 07:43 AM i just drove from LA, up I5 to Sacramento, and then over on I80 to Boulder, CO. About 1700 miles total with the powerstroke pulling about 9000 lbs (fully loaded truck with all my shit for college, bronco on HEAVY trailer in the back). I had cruise control on 80 for about the whole way. The speed limit was 75 basically the whole way outside of CA so no cops even gave me a second look.

my tow rig will barely do 55 empty, so loaded? naaa, 65 top's on flat ground... and it's a perfect running, 02 PSD (Piece of Shit Diesel)

Is that truck back on the road yet?

I read in ford-diesel that his truck recovered all on its own. So I guess he is in love again.:D
SLO_Crawlers 09-01-2002, 08:02 PM The highway patrol were all over I5 last night coming home from the Rubicon. I kept it at 70mph and the cops just kept flying by. 55 seems extremely slow. Even the semi rigs are going at least 60-65.
