: unsmith in Sac (norcal)? Need a .17 sleeve job
LOPPY 03-03-2009, 10:29 AM Anyone know of someone in Sac area, norcal-ish that can put a 17 sleeve in a 10/22 barrel?
I got inspired by a 'not too long ago' thread on 17's and one of you (damit, forget your name now and cant find on search!) went through rimfirecentral and found guys doing it there. I was just hoping to use someone local if I can. Dood called it his "sleeper" ... I like that. :grinpimp:
Rest of my MachII parts are coming this week, I'd like to get this roll'n. Any suggestions?
Jeff. 03-03-2009, 10:38 AM I go to J&G Gunsmiths in Rocklin/Roseville...Good people.
you do know you can get a factory contour barrel, right?

Priest 03-03-2009, 11:23 AM Does an unsmith undo the work that a smith does?
LOPPY 03-03-2009, 12:45 PM Yeah, WTF happened to my "G"? I know I typed it.
Ya know Jeff (I'm a Jeff too :flipoff2: ) I saw that come up on a search and figured it was the J&G in Arizona... haha... Sick, I'll check those guys out. Thanks!
Yeah Mo, dont reall care about contour as I'm probably going to refurnish her down the road anyway. I have plans for a Whistle Pig or R&L barrel but I have to save a few bucks and they're hard to get. Word was, I could do this for under $100 and run the fawker. I'd like to having something to get the receiver dialed in.
Plus I have two or three never shot 1022 barrels laying around with nothing to do.
if it's cheaper than the new barrel, then go for it. brand new take off barrels can often be found for cheap.
jmsdad 03-03-2009, 01:54 PM Green Mtn Mach2 barrels are only $70 new and cheaper if you can find it used. I think a 'unsmith' would charge more.

Got link? :D Because I haven't found anything that cheap. If so, I'm all over it. Thanks.

don't know how long of a barrel you want, but that 17" HM2 GM barrel I got is adequate for my needs.
what do you need to do to run a 96/22 barrel on a 10/22?
jmsdad 03-03-2009, 04:38 PM what do you need to do to run a 96/22 barrel on a 10/22?
nothing, the 96/22 barrel has an additional cut-out for dual extractors--one on each side. Whereas, the 10/22 has only 1 extractor groove on the barrel. Just bolt it on and go shoot.
Keith Strong 03-07-2009, 10:31 AM Fawk J&G. Overpriced and lousy service, although the work is quality.
Lop, go see Craig Maraviov in Woodland.

Eh. The guys in there are usually pretty helpful with me but there are some old farts in there that can be dbags. My buddy got a good deal on a Mossy 500 in there. They relocated now though and are in Granite Bay off Barton Rd.
Keith Strong 03-07-2009, 03:36 PM Yeah, the Barton Rd location is definitely better, and their inventory has increased. But their prices are so high it keeps me away.
lesevenel 03-08-2009, 08:06 PM +1 for J&G, I've had good experiences with them.
Jeff. 03-09-2009, 09:06 AM I've only been to J&G for warranty stuff, so I haven't had to pay. But they've always (I've only been twice so always may be an overstatement) had my shit finished in 1-2 days max...where they've quoted a week.
The old dudes will talk your ear off and you'll have to point to your gun on the rack when you go to pick it up because they will not find it, guaranteed. :homer:
