I e-mailed these:

1) What caused the original tranny failure? What can you do to prevent a similar problem in the future?

2) Understanding they are different rigs and hard to compare, but how do you like the LS3 compared to last year's LS2?

3) After you had changed the transmission, did you understand that you were disqualified? What did you understand this to mean? Did you believe you had a reasonable chance of having the DQ overturned later?

4) What was your motivation / intention in returning to the course after being DQ'd?

5) Did any official have any chance of preventing you from returning to the course or where you "wheeling on public land"?

6) Had the situation been reversed, and a DQ'd racer made contact with your rig causing damage, how would you have felt?

7) If they had chosen to do so, would the official have been justified in censuring you in any way for your actions that day?

8) In hindsight, would you do anything differently if you could (apart from not breaking the tranny ;-)

9) Are you aware of the intense backlash on sites such as Pirate4x4 and how do you feel about it? Do you think "non racers" and "web wheelers" should shut up and keep out of it, or do you believe that all fans have a right to at least ask questions about and discuss the actions of their heroes?

10) Do you ever wish you were a no-name privateer instead of a legitimate star and subject to intense scrutiny?

11) What's next for Shannon Campbell? Will you race in the KOH BITD, or Raush Creek qualifiers?

You guy's:shaking:

He hardly nudged the guy a couple times.

They put that guy back on his wheels so he could hold us, JR and some butt head in a toyota thing up for another 20 minutes while he tried the same line over and over.
Once he got up the ledge he rolled 15 ft. later on flat ground.

I hope Shannon tells you guy's to sack up.
No explanation needed.

Question E-mailed Pete

I'll wait to hear what he has to say. There were a lot of other racers who left the course when asked to due to DQ or time out. Out of respect to the other drivers and Hammerking staff. He did not...why???

Just my $.02 it did not affect me in the least.

What was your overall impression of the IFS rig?

Was it a one shot out of the box idea or is it the future?

Care to share any ideas you have to improve the IFS based on what you learned at the race?

Yea, some racers where told they were DQ'd and left the coarse and actually were not DQ'd. This is why dq's should not happen untill race is over and things can be reviewed,, then decision be made.
Also why was time to a check point not adjusted on where you started in line. There was a 20 plus min. time difference from first and last starters.???

I can't say I agree 100% with your sollution but I see your point. There are a few instances where the DQ was not in question.

I don't know on the check time adjustment. I would have liked to see them open longer.

I will listen to TORR tonight and see if my opinion changes, and if it does not who cares right.

Absolutly.
There should be no DQ untill the end of the race, then the Driver of record can dispute or argue the DQ.
Who know's, the DQ could be total bullshit. Look at 2nd/5th place. He didn't even run the whole race but was able to finish and hold a top 5 posision with no DQ. (Kudo's if he actually DQ'd himself)

Also, the check point times are always calculated for the slower class or last off the line. Technicaly the last off the line had more time to prepare for the race...

Right now they are racing go-karts around. Rumor has it that Pistol Pete has already lost three races to Shannon Campbell and Jason Scherer.....

Sorry I'm late to the larty as I have been trying to catch up after 12 days in the desert.

Check point time closing was calculated by the last car off the line and rounded to a number easy for the course workers. i.e. 11:26 was what we considered, but added time to make it 12:00 for ease of the workers and racers.

Yes I am listening to TORR.

I heard a contradiction - initially he said that when they were in camp broken he thought he was done and the sponsor encouraged/told him to "run the car".

But then, he said that it's not over until the end of the race and you don't quit.

Which is it?

Yeah and he commented that he stopped and talked to Jeff, knew he was DQ'd at a checkpoint I believe.. And then when talking about will he was racing and going to find out about the DQ later....

Another comment that was a little off was the one about passing.. If someone cataches you, they are faster and you should just let them by? fighting off racers that are behind you is part of the race....

Wilson
03-04-2009, 08:30 PM
I heard at the beginning that the sponsor encouraged him to press on, wehn he pulled back up to the line he was told (by Dave I believe) that it would not count, he was dq'd. Later Jeff tried to get hom off course for blowing check points, shannon argued his case and Jeff let him continue.

As Jeff Knoll said at the driver's meeting, "If a faster driver catches you, let them by. It's obvious they are faster. Heck, you'll probably pass them broken down on the side of the road 3 miles down the road anyhow."

In desert racing, you don't "fight off the racers that are behind you". If someone catches you, you're already losing to them since you started 30 seconds (or more) ahead of them. Get the fawk out of the way before you get punted off the course.

I let people by that were faster than me. It's pointless not too and you just end up getting nerfed and then passed. I did pass a lot of them further in too!
