I have a 6.0 chevy motor that I plan to swap into my YJ. I figured on waiting a while until I could buy a really good transmission. A possible "oppurtunity" has come up for a 700r4 from a 89 S10. Here's my ?- I know its not the strongest transmission. Could I get away with it for a while? Is the s10 700r4 the same as a full size 700r4?
Thanks!

Do you want an overdrive? If not, have you considered a TH350? They're cheap and can be built to be plenty strong.

Yes, I do prefer overdrive. I'm planning on buying a 4L80E, but was hoping to get by with the 700r4 for now.
I guess maybe I didn't give it enought thought before I asked. If I understand correctly, the 4L60E that so many are running is just an electronic 700r4.

Though I have a 9" rear end, I still have the little 30 up front. I do tend to beat on things. I have to take it easy on the 30 though. And in 2wd, I suspect spring wrap will be a problem. It should last a while, if i'm smrt:homer:

700R4 is the same (strength-wise) as a 4L60e.

As long as your PCM is happy, you'll be happy.

Good luck.

I run a 6.0L in my scrambler with a 700R4 and an atlas and I have no complaints. We switched the electric controlled throttle body to a manual. Everythings worked good.
