: 1350 U-Joint driveshaft flange for FJ55

I need some help -- for a varieity of reasons. I have a 72 FJ55 that has GM350/Turbo350/NP203 driveline put in by the previous owner.

My current issue is with the rear driveshaft. When I went to replace the u-joints, I discovered that it has 1350 series u-joints. So at the back of end of my rear driveshaft there is a driveshaft yoke that uses a 1350 series u-joints and mates up with a early landcruiser pinion flange. The 1350 u-joints used on my driveshaft are the ones that have clips on the outside end of the bearing cap.

I need another one of those yokes-- but I have no idea where such a beast came from. Anybody have an idea what that would be and where I could get it?

I read in one place that older landcruisers came with 1350 u-joints, but I do not really know if that is true. If it is true, maybe I just need another old landcruiser flange, but I sort of doubt it.

The reason that I need one of these driveshaft flanges is that I am going to loose the back end of the 203 and replace it with a toyota case-- so another flange would allow me to use the driveshaft I currently have (my NP203 has a 1350 series "yoke" type output-- while all the LC transfer cases I have seen have the flat pinion flange type output)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the link -- I didn't see anything that looked like my flange, but I am still looking. Now that you mention it, I think I remember someone telling my that my flange was made by a company called rockwell-- or something like that.

Again, thanks for the help.

Earlier this year I was at a local driveline shop talking with the guy about using a 1350 flange to mate up to my toyota frontend. he went back and grabbed a few flanges off the shelf. None of them were a bolt in kind of thing but they could be modified to work. The centering hole (raised area on the flange) could be machined down to the same size as the toy and the bolt holes in the flange could easily be redrilled to match the toy pattern.

That spicer flange guide is absolutely a pain to download. It took me forever so I printed it out so I wouldn't have to do it again.

Good luck.

PS It sounds as though you are looking for a 1350 companion flange. Maybe call onetoncv...he seems pretty helpful to most of the people on here.

It is possible that my flanges are semi-custom deals. The previous owner did the swap on my vehicle.

I don't know if the part I am looking for is called a companion flange or not-- I always thought it was called the drive shaft flange. Basically, it is just the end of the driveshaft -- it has four holes for attaching to the pinion flange on a landcruiser third member, a centering ring to keep it lined up, and it takes 1350 series u-joints.

Reading your post, I am pretty sure we are talking about the same part.

thanks again

when I replaced the rear end on my FJ55 I had to buy a new pinion flange. The the holes on the new pinion flange did not line up exactly with the holes on the driveshaft flange-- and they were a tad smaller. They were close, but not quite right. So I had to drill them out using the drive shaft flange as a guide.

So my driveshaft flange is probably some GM or other generic flange that uses 1350 series u-joints and lines up pretty close to the landcruiser pinion flange.

Wonder what it could be.
