ok, my jeep is starting to turn into an oven. I had to move the exhaust over to the driver's side b/c of the dana 300. at the same time I also had them move it up a little. I moved the stock heat shields over and thought that would be good enough. I don't think it is working. the floor boards get unbearable. is it that way for the passengars? I never rode in the passangar seat much so I don't realy know.
also, when I put the twin sticks for the 300 in I had to cutt the panel over the tranny. the twin stick boot doesn't fit b/c of the tranny shifter interfearing so now I have a hole that blows REALLY hot air into the cab. I shoved a towel in there as a temp fix but the air is still leaking in.
I need some ideas on how to get the cab temp down.
the ones I came up with are:
1) heat shield for the cat
2)obvousely redo the floor cover for the tranny
3) some type of heat shield for the tranny or insulation like the TJs use over the exhaust
4) wrapping the exhaust with that tape stuff
any one got any other sujestions? like what to do about the twin sticks. I thought about getting the twin stick boot and just running it upside down. do you think it would handle the heat from the tranny? it is on the other side of the tranny from the exhaust so that wouldn't be a problem.
also for the people that have swapped trannys. what did you do about the boot for the shifter. I still have the stock 231 shifter in there just to cover up the floor, but I want to remove it too. if I remove that I will need to have another shifter boot. what do you use and where do you get it?
anything I missed?

In one word... YES :flipoff2:
Think of it as a feature for winter. Radiant heat. ;)

I went to an RV place and bought some of that RV insulation. Cut it to fit under a floor mat. Didn't eliminate all the heat, but made it much more bearable.

u an coat ur entire exhaust.. or tape it .. helps but heat will still come thru the hole.
fixur floor board..
and extreme heat build up in ur cat can be a sign of exhaust failure..
ur muffler may be clogged.. or ur cat is clogged.. sumthing to check if the heat is in the exterme lever.. just a few things to look at .. keep the exhaust runnin as str8 as possible help keep the back pressure down a lil .. and every lil bit can help.

I had a buddy move his cat about 6 inches further back to help his heat problem. Floorboard hear is a pain but it's great for heating a cheese sandwich.

Most YJs I have been in are like that. Not to the point of burning your feet or whatever though. Now I have a header and it is even warmer but my previous YJ cooled a little after I lined my tub. The main advantage for me was I warmed my pop-tarts by leaving them on the floor on my way to work :D

straight? yea right the exhaust runs down the drivers side but still exits in the stock location.
my muffler isn't clogged the main thing is I have a belly up skid plate and when I had the exhaust ran I had them run it as close to the tub as possible. it seemed like a good idea at the time but didn't think about the xtra heat it would cause.
I am redoing the tranny cover (I think the main problem) and putting another heat shield over the cat.
what would you guys suggest for a rubber boot for the shifter and for the twin stick. the currie twin stick boot won't work b/c those shifters come in front of the tranny stick and it is to close.

GaJeep, I know what you're saying. Last spring, I built a fresh 454 for my CJ7. 2.5" dual exhaust with SuperTrapps ending under the body because there's no way of getting big pipes out the rear thru the 3-link with out them getting crushed by suspension movement. It baked the hell out of me and any passengers all summer. Awesome torque though! It ran about 230-240* normally, on a big 4-core radiator. Tried all the usual cooling fixes/upgrades with not a lot of improvement. The rear driveshaft and axle would get so hot you couldn't hold your hand to them - this was just during slow trail riding. One hot day, I had my hydraulic clutch and brakes fail and traced it to boiling fluid! After cooling off overnight, everything worked fine again.
My solution was to sell the 454, and drop in a TBI 350. Lost the low-end, "crawl thru anything at idle" torque of the 454, but the injection, and cool running are worth it. Kept the same exhaust, but the heat output is not a problem now. It now runs 190* on the same radiator. It's surprisingly got the same feeling power-wise other than the off-idle torque.
Not much help, but you're not alone. You may have to get creative with some heat shields.

I hear ya'
I am actually working on creative heat shields now. just when I was going to drill the holes to attach them my fawking $19.95 target drill finally bit the dust, so I was baking again today! servers me right though, but on the other side of that I have had that drill since college when I couldn't afford a real drill.
Go to your local race car supply shop and pick up some flexible silver heat shield material. It works a helluva lot better than the factory tin shields. Pop rivet the good stuff to the underside everywhere you can.
