Need any suggestions on where we should go on runs in our two YJs in Panamint Valley and Death Valley during our spring break in 2nd week of April. And where is best place to pitch tents and camp. Plan to do a 5 to 6 days trip. would like to do a tour of Panamint Valley area from Racetrack /Scotty castle in Death Valley to 4x4 loop runs in Panamint area.
I used to camp a lot by the spring near the Surprise Canyon entrance back in the 1970's and went on several motorcycle runs to Panamint City but I understand that this trail is closed to the public except hiking. So I wonder if this spring area is still open to camping? I dont remember the name of this place. Do you know this place? Also is Indian Ranch still open and available to the public for a swim in their spring fed pool?
what is weather like in April? I know that it is hot in May but in April?
Would love to visit Panamint Valley once again and bring back my childhood memories.
Thanks in advance

This will be the third year for the PanamintValley.com Spring Fling at PSR. The dates are April 17-19. Although, you can find many of us around before and after those dates.
I'll be out in the Panamint Valley from around April 12-20. My RV will be based at the Ballarat campground for the first half of the week, then I'll be moving to Panamint Springs Resort by the 17th.
We try not to make it too organized. It's just a bunch of Desert Rats who get together and cruise the trails in the valley and check out old mining camps and what-not. We do a pot luck on Saturday night and I take no responsibility for what happens at the campfire afterwords.:D Feel free to stop by for dinner or a trail run if you're around at that time. I hear some folks may run Isham Canyon, however, we never decide on anything until the night before while sitting around the fire.
I'll be in a Blue FJC or a 30ft Thor Pinnacle with Old Glory on the back. CB 4

Is Panamint Springs Resort used to be Indian Ranch? If so, how much had this place changed since the 1970's? I had not been to Panamint Valley for nearly 30 years. I had been itching to return to Panamint Valley for a long time!

Panamint Springs Resort is out on 190 about three miles West of Panamint Valley RD. It's not too far East of the old Darwin Toll RD. If that helps to give you an idea of it's location.
I'm not too sure what's going on a Indian Ranch. The last time I passed the ranch there was a sign that said "Public Camping" yet the gates where closed and the place looked vacant.
If you want your fill of Indian Ranch History, go here. Indian Ranch, from '75 thru to present in the Panamint's (http://panamintvalley.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1060)
