CAPTAIN_MORGAN 03-09-2009, 04:24 PM Can't have too much power with a Quadra-junk on it. But it does look like it has "double hump" heads on it. Surely, if a guy spent the money to build a 383 he would have put a better intake and carb. Not bashing just my .02 cents.
jeep937 03-09-2009, 04:43 PM Good price far any complete sbc. 383 or not. Aren't Q jets the best for off road?

i agree 100%..
but the kid swears up and down thats what it is..
but i can care less, i want it gone..
i hate quadra junk carbs also..
i even hate edelbrock but thats what im running since motor is all edelbrock performance..
CAPTAIN_MORGAN 03-10-2009, 11:06 AM I've always had good results with Edelbrock, but I'm now running a Holley 750 on my SBC. I've always heard bad things about Holley's, but with 450 HP I needed something bigger, badder, and better than the shitty 650 Electric Choke Elelbrock. After a good Carb. man set my Holley my truck really came alive.
I would be interested in the Powersteering Pump bracket, and the Alternator bracket. I also have "double hump" heads and I had to MAKE some accesory brackets work = looks bad.
I can't tell from the picture, but looks like a 4 bolt main. A good motor man told me if a 350 has a tread in plug right behind the water pump (on the top) it's a 4 bolt main. If that is the case your selling it way too cheap. I'm in Arkansas so shipping would be too expensive or I would buy it. I would say it would be worth at least triple that if you can let someone hear it run.
Good luck with the sell.
And a free "bump" to you.
tugtug 03-10-2009, 06:22 PM yea im a holly guy also..
but im running edelbrock..to be honest i do not know if its a 4 bolt main or not..but i will look and see..
also i will see what i can do on the shipping part of this... my uncle runs the fedex up here and ive shipped vehicals across U.S. for free..it just depends on if we have a truck running your way or not..if the motor isnt 4 bolt i will try and send you the parts still...
also im wondering what the bump thing is?..i have been a member of pirate since 2004 and have no idea what that means..
thunderkiss 65 03-10-2009, 08:12 PM A threaded hole above the water pump denotes a 4 bolt main. That is honestly the first time I have ever heard that one:shaking: Have you checked any numbers on the block to verify that it started life as a 350? The 305 looks the same on the outside also. Bump for a good deal on a 350 even better deal on a 383 not so much on a tired 305 with some headers and chrome valve covers.
Also the 400 is visually the same except for the freeze plugs on the side.
blegenam 03-11-2009, 05:51 AM Since it's not in the truck, is there any way you could pull the oil pan and verify if it is in deed a stroker????
Thanks
CAPTAIN_MORGAN 03-11-2009, 06:45 AM Bump = bump the thread to the top of the page. That way it's one of the first ones you see and not burried somewhere on page 6.
As far as the threaded hole behind the water pump meaning a 4-bolt main.......I don't know if that is completly ture, but everyone I have ever seen had this. I have owned 3 and everyone had this. The only way to know for sure is to either pull the pan and look at the main caps, or run the casting numbers.
As far as dropping the pan, it would probably be a little difficult to see if it's "stroked" unless you know right where to look. But if you want to, you will be looking for a machined notch in the block for the bigger crank to sit in. A "383 stroker" is a 350 block with a 400 crank, so......a guy might be able to look at the harmonic balancer. I know there is a difference between a 350 and a 400 balancer. Unless it is an "after market" stroker crank that except a 350 balance. But that is highly unlikely b/c there really expensive.
BOTTOM LINE IS IF IT RUNS YOU CAN'T GO WRONG FOR $200.00!!
blegenam 03-11-2009, 07:16 AM You are correct in thinking that if it runs, it's a good deal.
Well, he has no proof that it does run and I don't think I'll make a 6 hour trip to bring home an engine that doesn't run. If I was closer, maybe.
TinyScramblerMan 03-11-2009, 09:13 AM Will you ship it? If so how much to 70592.
tugtug 03-11-2009, 11:31 AM i honestly havent herd of the threded thing behind water pump to be a 4 bolt main... but i also dont know how to tell the difference..i did talk to the kid who owned the motor and he said it ran when he sold me the truck with 86,200 something miles on motor...
he said it ran for sure but it did not have a battery when i went and picked it up and i never did start this engine..i brought it home and turned it over with a battery that didnt have enough juice to start the engine..
he said it ticked every once and a while when he started it but as soon as the oil warmed, it went away..(so im guessing it had a stuck lifter or a spun bearing)..
i will see what i can do about shiping the motor to a seriouse buyer..like i said before i have a in on fed ex trucks and i can ship shit for free..
tugtug 03-11-2009, 11:35 AM Since it's not in the truck, is there any way you could pull the oil pan and verify if it is in deed a stroker????
Thanks
yea i will pull the pan and find out, i will even try and snap some shots of it all closer to add up here...
