: Flex-a-lite Elec. Fan 2.5L
TejasTJ 03-07-2009, 12:20 PM Would you guys suggest running this E fan for my 4 cyl? Full armor and loaded down jeep really makes this thing lug up hills even with the 4.88's and 33's, and 4.0L Throttle body.

TejasTJ 03-07-2009, 12:22 PM Also technical support said it comes with relay and everything to hook it up, I also need to get the overflow tank bracket which is just $30. So is it worth it to get the extra horsepower and torque?
MonsterSeven 03-07-2009, 12:28 PM might as well.
TejasTJ 03-07-2009, 12:56 PM hmmm, that's a chunk of money if it doesn't do anything that will be such a waste. Does anyone know for sure, will it help with HP?
demigod17 03-07-2009, 03:48 PM a buddy of mine did it to his 2.5 yj and made a huge difference in hp and gas milage, not kidding
Monkey Wrench 03-07-2009, 03:58 PM Anytime you take the Stock Pully Fan off, and replace it with a Electric Fan, there will be a notable differance, and gain.
As well, you can get rid of that huge shroud!:D
TejasTJ 03-08-2009, 12:21 AM Which fan kit should I look at getting they offer a 475 and a 485 of course one is more expensive, whats the difference and which one should I get on summit?
MonsterSeven 03-08-2009, 12:38 AM what kind of serpentine belt do you have to run after you install this?
ioman2 03-08-2009, 06:32 AM you can take a fan out of a ford taurus. i have one, but haven't put it into my 2.5l. you can probably buy a whole ford taurus for the price of that spiffy new fan.
TejasTJ 03-08-2009, 05:11 PM I've heard of tarus fans crapping out on people after a while.
Alfred W. 03-08-2009, 09:42 PM DUDE get real its a 2.5 that is why I replaced My 2.5 with a 4.0.
Clutch fan with a shroud is the best way to go.
kb1jkn 03-08-2009, 09:52 PM ok, I got a electric fan from an advance auto parts for about 70 bucks when my old 2.5's mech fan shit the bed. Installed it in about an hr, with all the electrics, and noticed a decent gain. My ass-o-meter dyno may not be perfect but I deff noticed a good power add, especially with accel. Last may i did a 4.0 swap, and kept the fan and got a new 3 core all metal rad to replace the pos that was in there. With the 2.5 I could shut off the fan unless i was sitting still with no air running over the rad, which is cool on the highway for ur whole "fuel milage" thing. The 4.0? It wants nothin to do with keepin it cool, its constantly creepin over 210, it just dosent throw enough air. SO basically, with a 2.5 I think you could ductape a fly to the radiator and use its wings to keep it cool. Get somthin cheep and you will be fine.
TejasTJ 03-08-2009, 11:30 PM Cool, I would like something that has everything I need, like a kit, with detailed instructions. I just really suck at electronic stuff.
Bogatyr 03-09-2009, 04:44 AM Get a taurus fan. There is a wiring unit that comes with some sort of computer which only turns the fan on when needed. Also comes with a switch that turns the fan off for water crossings. I can't remember what the name of it was for the life of me. Gonna try and find it, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, let us know~!

First of all Your not going to get HP or fuel mileage out of a 2.5 the 4.0 gets better gas mileage. The 2.5 works too hard to push the brick down the Highway.
Dude on the High way a clutch fan doesn't turn. Thats why it's a clutch fan.
I am using the same Radiator that I had for the 2.5. WHY? Because it is the same part number from Jeep, plus mines all copper.
I am using the same clutch fan from the 2.5 on my 94 Cherokee engine. BUT I did buy a NEW temp sender, Yes they too are the same part number you can go to Napa and ask. The water pump is the same part number also
Here's a secert the 2.5 is a 4.0 with two cylinders removed This is why it is such a rough running engine. You don't think so then go out and get yourself 3 bad disks in your back and install solid motor mounts. I do and I did.
As far as YOU having a problem with YOUR 4.0 keeping it cool. I'd address that because both my 2.5 and the 4.0 stay rock steady at 210.
Allot of people think a fan is all you need, but the shroud is a very important part of the fan. It directs the air THRU the cooling fins of the radiator and also stops efficency loss from slippage of air off the ends of the blades.
You ever hear an Airplane or Airboat? loud as hell arn't they? Why? It's the Propeller, Now they have a propeller with 90 degree bent tips called a Q-tip.
Now what does that have to do with your engine's fan? Electric or Clutch or hi flex fancy spend your money on me fan, it does'nt matter. IF you don't have a shroud to direct the Air thru the radiator. Because like a Propeller on a plane the Fan will act like a paddle wheel on a boat and use most of its energy to push air around the engine compartment. EVEN electric fans need direction that is why the higher costing ones come with foam seals.

Soo, are you saying that the shroud on taurus fan is insufficient?
Alfred W. 03-09-2009, 10:22 PM Soo, are you saying that the shroud on taurus fan is insufficient?
I said they (all fans)NEED a good shroud. and I said high dollar electric fans usually Come with a foam rubber seal. I did not name any names and what I will stand by is the Clutch fan and shroud is the best for cooling.
I've seen enough people installing their own electical things and I thank GOD every night my Jeep was virgin when I got it.
kb1jkn 03-09-2009, 10:44 PM So basically what you are telling me is that you havent put an electric fan on your jeep and have little to add to this thread?
All im saying for his sake is dont spend all that money on a fancy hi doller fan when all you need to cool a lil 2.5 is a low buck one. Im sorry if I offended your clutch fan. I noticed a decent change in hp and milage because as previously stated MY clutch fan failed and was constantly spinning (like it was a welded one piece job).
