ok my Fing head hurts from searching..

i am looking mount some shocks on my TJ project and the only thing i can think of would be to outboard them ..i remember reading somewhere where someone used stock Ford mounts or some shit like that and notched them in the frame .anyone know what i am talking about ??

i am short on space being i am running a SRW 14b on xj leafs in the rear with stock backspacing H1s ..

so any insight would be great or pics of how you notched your frame and made the upper mounts ..

i have no interest in a kit that costs $200 either so lets skip that route ..

I have seen what your talking about. But i dont see how your going to do it with the stock H1 wheels. I think the tire will hit when you compress. The other guy that did it was wide as hell. But could be wrong.

yeah i already thought they would hit when compressed but had my fingers crossed ..

i am not sure how else to mount them

Ford towers on a TJ with 14 bolt. Not factory frame though. BS is 4.5

i think even notched you're going to run into problems running stock h1's on a SRW. If you recenter or run spacers you'd probably be ok. I'm recentered to 3.25 inches and am able to outboard without notching at all.

The other thing i did not think of is you are running a tall tire It may not hit the shocks. May max out the fender well before it had the swing to hit the shock. But its hard to tell with out seeing it work.

Whats the distance from the inside of the tire to the outside of the frame.

You might have to clock them a bit, but it should work. We do it on stock jeep axles all the time.

Had to use 1.5" wheel spacers on the 8.8.

Well i am in The great state of Pennsylvania so i have to keep the tires covered ..thats why i went with the H1s ..recentering isnt a option for me

never thought of that ,but i guess i`ll have to notch the frame to find out either way right ??

I`ll take some measurments in a few and see what i come up with ..i planed on clocking them back some like you have pictured anyway ..its really my only option things are tight in there ..what mounts did you use or where they fabbed up ??

They are set-in. Mine are 90* to the LCA's which leaned them back about 7* if i remember correctly
I clicked that gen-right link and the price was about $300
I paid less than $20 for the ford towers
Here are only other pix i could find
good luck to ya

I had stock H1s with 39.5 Irocks, and FW dana 60s. On hard turns the tires would rub the factory coil spring mounts, which only stick off the frame about an inch and a half.....I dont think you will be able to notch the frame enough to fit the shocks between without some sort of spacers or recentering. However, If you run the lower shock mounts on the back of the axle and angle them in a bit it will be really close but it might put your shocks at a wierd angle. My mounts are recessed just shy of all the way, and i mounted the shock tab right on top of the axle cause i was cheap and I didnt have longer shocks laying around. I however run 2" spacers and have a good amount of clearance. Just my .02 BTW I have a couple of pics but cant post them...
