Did anyone run a clean race? I mean no mechanical issues?

We were getting close till the top of sledge, then we started smelling coolant and had to deal with a leaking water pump. Before that we stopped for gas and checkpoints.

I know this is all buried in separate stories, I'm looking for the clif notes.

I wonder if a moderately fast car can still win this if it's run totally clean. I know in fast desert racing the fields have progressed to the point that you have to be a top contender AND have a clean race to win. I think we're close to or at that point.

No real issues for us.

Our rear shocks faded, but I wouldn't really call that a mechanical problem.

I believe in his story, Roger Lovell, says he didn't have any troubles.

The 1919 JaggedX buggy finished with only one flat tire. Never put a wrench to the buggy. Better yet not a single fluid leak. :smokin:

This buggy is Bills weekend warrior. Other than a spare mount, some more front preload, nothing was changed from his normal everyday set up.

New axels, and U-joints throughout, and a complete service was done to prep for the race.

This includes running the LCQ.

He did break a rim prerunning, but that might have been a little drive error :homer:

I believe Adam Woodlee ran a clean race. He finished 8th and said he never got over 60mph in desert.

Talked to Adam Carter and he went over his yesterday. The only thing wrong with his was he sheared the bolts off the rear passenger brake bracket.

When you guys were setting up on the plaque waterfall, that coolant was pissing like mad!! Musta been running from the front down the frame, and spewing off the skidplate. I ran up the canyon to the mailbox with a few bottles of water just in case yall needed it, but seemed like yall were good.

He didn't get out of the driver's seat for the entire race! We looked through it last weekend and I think we will change some fluids and bang out some body panels but otherwise, it is good for the next race.

My only issue was a broken whinch rope, and you can't call that mechanical right.. Not a single issue with the truck, wash it, change some fluids and go faster next time.. I can't believe it held up for the entire race.

The only time i stopped was because my tool bag came loose and was flopping. No mechanical issues at all.

Then we rode Saturday after the race too with no issues.

I hope this post does not jinx me.

You have any problems other than that bolt on Sledge?

We had no mechanical issues.... Wheeled the day after the race and wheeled all weekend at TDS ... We Spent 6 months before the race testing we would take the buggy back to the shop and tear it down went through every nut and bolt including tearing down axels and 3 members to inspect..If you want to win this is what it takes I have seen teams chasing issues and they never get a chance to find there weak point.. No major mechincal problems. We rolled 1 and 3/4 times down a hill and broke a cooler fitting. Spent 1.5 hours righting the rig. I went wheeling today. No new noises.

A couple little things...

Blew a shock in the desert
Cracked fuel cell
Electrical demons stopped us dead
Steering bolt, hose, and tie-rod clamp on Sledge
Lost a cooling fan
Driveshaft u-joint exploded a cap
Hole in the oil pan

We could have used the water but couldn't take it from you without DQing ourselves. We were doing the math on how long it would take to run from the top of sledge to the calrock pit for a jug of water...

Sounds like a lot of the front runners ran really clean. Like JR said, testing and tuning can reveal a lot of weak links but there's always freak stuff you can't fix any other way than dealing with it on the course.

I think this is going to turn out like current trophy truck racing, there will be a few top names with great rigs that check out from everyone else and a few of those will have trouble free days and be in contention for the win.

I know yall couldn't have taken if from me, but just in case it was bad, I hauled ass up there.
