: Tried Search - no luck - Ford hp60 u bolt

I tried searching, had no luck, but it's kinda a weird question:

Can anyone with a hp 60 enlighten me as to how the stock inner u bolt fits on the drivers side with the cast in perch?

I just (finally) got my hp60 (79 ford f350), it is a bare housing essentially, I already have the chev outers ready to go on to it, looks like it is going to be real close to bolt in, or bolt in, as far as perch width on my YJ yada yada yada. The one weird thing is that the cast in perch appears to use u bolts, based on the way it looks. It does not appear to use the inner BOLTS to hold it in place like the chev does. And yet the u bolt appears to me to have to fit around the housing webbing at the bottom of the housing. Other than this webbing, it appears that a perfectly round u bolt would fit perfectly well. Can anyone with knowledge/experience with the stock setup enlighten me as to how it worked stock?

Thanks for any info.

Chad

The u-bolts were turned 90* from what you're thinking -- they ran over the tops of the springs rather than over the tube. You can reverse them, you just have to do some grinding to make the u-bolt fit.

on mine from a 79 f250, the u bolts pointed down and went through a cast peice that went around the web. i ended up using square ubolts (as opposed to u shaped) and went through the cast peice from the bottom pointing up. i have seen someone who ground a notch in the web and used a u shaped ubolt. not sure which is best or if there is another better way.

I just ground a notch in the web and used a round bolt. I think that's what a lot of people are doing.
