I am looking for some back up birfields. My cruiser is a '73 but has a disk brake conversion up front. Looks like a mini truck conversion it has solid rotors. Previous owner did the conversion. I found some birfields for a 79 - 85 toyota. Is this what I need? How do I make sure these are correct for my axle?

the birfs should be okay!!

the axles will be different lengths, to the minitruck

any cruisers, should have the same axles...maybe, dunno about cruisers before 76, ive never really looked at one....... but the axles themselves should be the same, unless they are from those coarse spline birfs.....????

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the inner axles used with Birfs are the same. Dont know about the early Cruzahs with the weird joints......

I know my 74 axles have the coarse Birfs, but have the finespline inner ends, and I know the mini/79+ LC Birfs will fit the outer ends......

Basically, I'm pretty sure changing the inner axles is not required for a mini-disc conversion on ANY '40 that has Birfs, so you should be good to go with what you've got. :D

Oh...Actually, you can switch back to FJ40 vented rotors, and 86+ mini calipers, if you ever need to replace them.

There are write-ups out there on the LC-to-mini disc conversions, if you need info......
