78 series indicates the updated *j7 series troopcarrier. An updated *j7 series pickup would be a 79 series. Up dates include a switch to a coilsprung front end, switch to a larger cabin in the pickup (non removable top) and a few other updates. In most countries, the *j7 series is now available with either the 1HZ 6 cyl diesel (12 valve, indirect injected), or the 1FZ-FE gas 6 cyl. Although Australia recently got a top end version with the 1HD-FTE (24 valve, direct inject, turbocharged and intercooled.) My problem with this add: The update to the 70 series came after 1998. A 98 70 series troopie or pickup should just be a regular 75, with out the updates. Plus a boatload more $$$.

Exactly. That's like $2,200 US. Should be more like $22,000 US.

1998 may be a HZJ75 (removable top) or HZJ79 non removable top. It was around that time that mine service trucks switched out. If this is a mine truck, that has seen service it may well be offered at $3,500 CDN. BUT, I would warn all of you to run away from this deal. Minnesota rust pales in comparision to mine ore rot. I can speak from experience. I parted a low hours (760 hour) 1995 HZJ75 in late May. The engine was the only item worth saving (yet oil pan had rot holes). Rear axle had wear, front axle had wear and blown mini birfields (had already destroyed the Big birfields that were issued with it). Tranny had worn synchros, t-case had bad gears and corrosion was more than 80% through the outer case in many parts. The pilot and t/o bearing were fused to input shaft. Bellhousing had to be sledhammered apart (see thread in June on LC hate). Tub had pop riveted floor and rust. Frame had rust, but also structural failure- the first intact frame member front to back was the rear shock tube! It had no doors (they fell off) and windshield frame was too rotten even by Canadian standards. 3 years ago I bought some other used mine stuff, two FF rear axles. The place where the U bolts hold the axle to the spring had 1/2" plate scabs because the U bolts had all but pulled through the tube. Again, a warning. IF it was an active mine truck (underground or above) run away. There were a few that escaped as manager trucks but no way they would sell for $3,500.

..they sell new for $35K CDN ($22K US) but cannot be sold to non mine companies and are "off road only" (no title even).

hey Rick what did you pay for your truck? Now that I think about it, your right it is probably a mine truck. But could be in good shape who knows. The truck is about 4.5 hours from me. If I had the time and a little extra cash I would snap it up.

BTW did anyone call?

That would be one cool Cruiser..but mine's tear through stuff and usually only get rid of it for one reason...it costs more to keep it running then its worth.....

$3,500 US and free freight from Flin Flan (sp?) to Saskatoon. I got the bottom stuff, Greg R got the upper- A lot was tossed out.

engine, front axle, transfer internals (some), tranny internals, rear axle were only things I kept. rear axle will be for sale minus 3rd member (loose 4.56) if someone wants to mess with it. I am piecing the front axle back together (for my keeps). engine and tranny sold.

fuel tank was good (woooooww). Steering box ?, then cab (below) Frame and springs and 300 pound rear bumper went to scrap.

we kinda lost our arse on deal. the tub might be repairable, a floor alone is $1,000 US (new, OEM), then rockers, etc. Greg has a good top, and doors, but no windshield frame. front clip is relatively cheap- he might convert his '85 BJ to a stubby pick up.....
