It's going to be sooo high. I had 3in springs and a 3in body in when I did mine. I even had 35x12.50 bfgs and it looked like a monster truck. You can kinda tell its goin that direction from the front. Oh and loose the boots man...give them to your dog. Otherwise, its looking good.:smokin:

yeah im hoping to run springs for a year or 2 then go to coil over , didnt have the funds for coil overs right now , but yeah right now its high hopefully the springs settle a bit

i know alot of guys are using chevy MC's so i went and got one today for $30 sucker weighs a ton , went to put it in and found i must have got the wrong one cause the line sizes were 9/16 and 1/2
so i went to the junk yard trying to figure out which year was the correct one i came across a 98 dodge 1500 looked about right , pulled it out center to center for the mounts were perfect and the bore size was 1-1/4

got home and thing fit perfect all i had to get was an M12 - M10 reducer for the front, hopefully everything still works , before i installed it i pulled it apart and cleaned real good
oh yeah didnt have to grind the push rod down , the depth was close to the same :D
diff between frontier and 1500

If you plan on running those 63" chevy springs in the rear be prepared to add an anti wrap bar. I installed the 63's on my hardbody with 33" tires and had axle wrap problems until i built a bar.

You've done some really nice work on your truck! I really like the way it is set up.

Yakker
05-04-2010, 09:02 AM
so how are you liking those pro-comp springs?

I'm trying to decide between those, 44044's, or trail-gear's... :shaking:

penski61
05-04-2010, 09:25 AM
i started with the 31211 L and 31212 R but wasnt getting alot of flex so i switched to the 33311 rear springs and added one leaf to the pack and the flex is great now

if i decide to keep leaf springs i will eventually get a custom leaf spring pack for the front

but you cant beat $100-200 for a set of leaf springs

also goin to the fox shocks helped alot with the boat like feeling with the springs upfront

Can you get a picture of the other location you tapped the box for the hydro assist?

penski61
05-04-2010, 05:33 PM
yeah , you can see it in the background of the pic i posted but ill get you a better one

now the tap you can plainly see in the pic drill more to the left of where i have mine , i went off a pic of where someone else had tapped . when i threaded in the fitting one of the teeth for the sector shaft would hit the fitting , if i would have went 1/2" to the left i wouldnt have had any issues

penski61
05-04-2010, 06:56 PM
i went ahead and tapped a spare 1st gen box i had , the one fitting is just there to show a reference

Do you know about how much suspension lift over stock height your truck has up front? Also, how far did you stretch the front wheelbase? Thanks

penski61
05-05-2010, 05:06 PM
i think the axle is 2" foward of stock , as far as lift i would guess around 7-8 " of lift

penski61
06-12-2010, 09:50 AM
front or rear? rear isnt a whole lot lol , i was rubbing at full stuff with 35's so i took a hammer and bashed it in about 2"
i may have to take a cut off wheel to it , the front should be ok be we shall see
im getting ready to put the 9" in the back and the hp upfront so it will be a while before i have it out on the trail

i got the 9" housing under the truck today , i was able to move it back a little bit more so hopefully that will help out

May have to do that to mine too.... You know penski, I use to be competitive but trying to keep up with your build... oh well. When your tired of working on your truck, I will let you put the chevy springs on my rear and move my axle back a bit.

haha , Natalie gets mad enough cause she says that i work to much but i think i can help you with the chevy swap
i ended up deciding not to notch the cab
instead i kept the axle where it was (1" further back than with 35's) cut the bumper down and capped the ends then relocated the side support and then cut the fender some more , i think this way i will have minimal cab rub and dont have to cut the cab

well changing my mind again :laughing:

broke a couple leaf springs in Moab so i decided its time to go 3 link up front

working on getting all the parts together right now , ideally id like to go 4 link in the rear at the same time but to much money , and if i do 4 link the back im gonna go with the ruff stuff housing since my stock was is slightly bent and the bearing flanges are messed up

oh the 2 piece driveshaft worked out awesome and the flat tailgate worked out alot better for the departure angles
you can view all 3 of these in 1080p

Kenny(theking) will be helping me put together the truck but i went ahead and started prepping so when it comes time im hoping we can get it knocked out in 2 day maybe even one
started by taking out the front shock hoops and shocks cut off the tabs and such
then made a new crossmember for the transmission
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z219/penski61/P6198944.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z219/penski61/P6198945.jpg
got a good chunk of work done today
cut out a stock crossmember in the back and added some cross braces to crossmembers i had already installed on the truck
got the shock towers mocked up then added a truss? to them and made it removeable so i can take the bed off if needed
need to fix the hole in the bed on the drivers side but other than that i think it came out good

Fan is only pulling 1.2 amps? Doesn't sound right to me..

penski61
07-18-2011, 08:12 AM
that what i thought too so i recorded the initial pull on start up and shows 24amps then drops down to .5 on low speed , the meter is pretty accurate as i use it for work but i tried a different one anyway and same thing 24 amps on start up in low speed then drops to .5 when running
not sure why the amperage is so low since these are supposed to be up at 25 amps on low when running
ill try the line coming right out of the fan and see what it is maybe i have two bad meters but i doubt it

jtr
07-18-2011, 09:44 AM

got a few more things done to the truck to get ready for the 3 and 4 link ,
installed a different trans x-member and added a skid plate , re-ran the exhaust

my rear housing was either bent or warped cause i was goin thru axle seals on the pass side so i got the ruff stuff housing , now just re-doin some brake lines and then the truck will go on the trailer and head out to cali at the end of the month

so i got a bunch of stuff done
cut the carrier bearing x-member and modified it so it runs to the top of the frame
replaced motor mount pass side
replaced trans mount
moved the muffler towards the front to clear the rear upper driver side link mount
got the rear upper links coped , center to center is 42"
got some new cable stops for the e-brake so i dont have to use vice grips lol
now to head cali on thursday to get the truck linked :)

only changes are charge the coilovers to 200lbs since we only had a pre-set regulator , move the coilovers up about 2" in the back and adjust the rear uppers one hole up

i probably didnt even put it up there but this is a hp 60 for the front , ill keep the 9" in the back since its already built with 35 spline axles
i was goin to do a 609 up front but the extra $2500 to get the hi-9 plus a fabbed housing was the deal breaker
i picked the housing up for $100 out of a 94 f-350 then had it re-tubed (short side lengthened , long side shortened) for another $175

the main reason for goin with the 60 up front over the 44 is because ill be buying an atlas off a friend and i dont think the 44 would be able to handle front digs

I broke the ears of my 60 shafts doing a front dig....60 will be a much better investment than a 44

i already have a built 44 up front and started stretching the ears with a 3.9 t-case , 5.38's and lockers front and rear

so i guess i should have the main reason to upgrade to the 60 instead of keeping the 44 ;)

were you running chromoly's and how heavy is your rig ?

was able to re-use the trans x-member /skid i made up (skid not on yet)
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z219/penski61/P2183688.jpg
had to change the design of the 2nd portion of the console so that the shifter box would mount to the floor instead of the console
here is the shifter box with some mounts i made up to bolt it to the floor

Hey dude awesome truck. You don't still have te original front running gear or know of anybody about to do the sas do you? I have an 03 crew cab 2wd and would love to make it 4wd. I could just do the sas myself but I'd need to locate a front axle and I dont know which ones will fit. I'm not looking for an aggressive truck just something to play around in since it is my dd. I could probably do a divorced transfer case rather than trying to locate and swap in a 4wd one. Thanks.

new shift knobs installed
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z219/penski61/P2255667.jpg

got the ruff stuff diff cover modified , kind of hard to tell but there are (2) 1/4" allen head screws on the bottom of the cover 1 in the center and one to the right
i may roll the 44 out from under the truck and get the 60 mocked up so i can get the lower link brackets, pan hard bar and hydro assist brackets on then go ahead and pull it back off and paint it

Just out of curiosity, what is that 60 out of? It looks like a 79 diff position, but it has balljoints.... custom tubes in a newer center section?

penski61
04-16-2012, 08:30 PM
correct , its out of a 93 i had the long side shortened and short side lengthened not quite 79 specs so i had to get custom axles made up

the housing was only $100 at the Jy so i figured its better than paying $1100 for a axle i would have to re-build anyway

penski61
05-10-2012, 03:00 PM
got the main portion of the cage done by RPM fab here in tempe,az then i added the dash tube , windshield tube , floor tube , tool box mount and ice chest platform

very cool, for the headliner if it bothers you with the seems maybe put some velcro behind it to hold them together. otherwise, how often are you going to look up. :p

yeah im not to worried about it , i put the headliner back in more to deaden the noise and heat a little bit
