We are, a few of us from around Asheville are still planning on going up there. I want to show Danny and the SFWDA a little more support in a bleak time.
Lemme know who else is going to come? We will come up Friday and will probably leave Saturday to ride at Beasley Knob or this Little Buffalo but we will return on Saturday evening to stay and show more support.
Lemme know who all is still planning on coming.

I'm rolling in. I could care less if I ride or not. I'm there to show support. Last Spring Fling I didn't ride till Sunday and only hit 1 trail. From my understanding in the past Little Buffalo is private. If it's not, I'd love to try it out.

Thanks guys. Little buffalo is not private, however the road passes through private lands and the residents are a little flamed after the article about the place made it into Crawl Mag. There were some folks that showed their ass and mad the residents mad. So, A small well mannered group to little buffalo would be cool, the rest of the hooligan's can go to Beasley.

PLEASE NOTE:WE ARE STILL NEEDING TO KNOW THE HEAD COUNT OF WHO WILL BE ATTENDING, SO FOOD ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE. IF YOU ARE COMING PLEASE CALL ME AND MAKE A RESERVATION. 828-837-9077

Danny can you tell us if this thing is actually going to happen? We really want to come but should we bring a rig? Is there going to be any number of people there? Roughly can you tell us any number so we arent sitting around one campfire all 10 or however many people are coming? We all want to be there for the SFWDA and Tellico but what is actually going to be a turnout by them or by anyone coming?

I have had only a few cancellations at this point. I have not called everyone to confirm who is coming. Assuming that everyone that has not called me to cancel is still coming we are looking at about 75-80.
We are still doing the rock crawl at the campground and BBQ dinner on Sat. If you want to wheel, there will be folks heading over to Beasley. There will still be the option of Fri and Sat night camping, however there has been interest of some that just want to spend the afternoon on Sat. We are looking at $20 per person for that scenario, which includes the dinner. As a fundraiser this scenario will not generate as much funds as the weekend deal, but will give folks an opportunity to share thoughts with SFWDA and stay involved.
I really don't know how to pump this up anymore, I personally think the intention of not reopening Tellico on schedule was partially because of this fund raiser event. The FS knows we need interest and support to fight them, this is one way to discourage that effort.

Beasley is about 30 to 45 min from murphy, don't know how challenging it is but there are a few of us are going on down to check it out.

We're still heading up (3 rv sites, 5 or 6 people), rigs and all. May ride, may not, don't really care. Just want to do our part to show support, get more info, and do all we can do to fight TU and the FS for OUR rights to public lands.

Danny, thanks for your effort and I hope that the latest FS news is not turning people away, it should get everyone fired up and wanting to attend Spring Fling 09 even more. If we don't fight it, who will...

See you in a few weeks

Beasley Knob is a good place to play around. 35" tires should get you everywhere IIRC. Clay trails with some rocks. If its dry its like playing on steep concrete in spots, if its wet it can be really hard. I've picked up broken and rolled rigs out there before. Best thing is that your not commited to being out there all day like tellico. If you want to go into blairsville for lunch it only takes a half hour to get out.

Beasley Knob has 1 train I think is still open that is the hardest trail I have ever seen. I am pretty sure they closed it because several people have died on it. Its like 5 rock ledges coming back at you in the middle of a serious mountain. Any locals know what trail im talking about.
The rest of the place 35's will get you anywhere.
If its raining some of the red clay hills are not even worth driving up unless you have lots of HP and boggers or very aggressive tires. My 40" crawlers suck in that kinda mud and mostly just slid up and down everything in a hard rain.

I would love to go to Little Buffalo if a group is going. How far from crawfords is it.

Thanks for the positive comments folks. Beasley will be cool for a day trip if you have never been there or if you want to make a statement while heading that direction from here. It is basically a lot of hill climbs on red clay. It will take about 1 hr to get there from the campground. The Little Buffalo area is extreme stuff, small area compaired to Tellico, but you can commit to a day out there. The biggest issue is that there really isn't a place to park tow rigs, so this would be a better location for the registered vehicles that are set up for extreme stuff. The Beasley knob has parking and like Travis said, you can get out of there in a few minutes and you are just outside of Blairsville, GA.
On the second note we have had a total of 15-20 people cancel out. Kinda sad, since this is what the FS wants everyone to do. I wonder if these folks plan to sell their rigs on E-bay as well. I really don't think the majority thinks this is a nation wide issue. These folks may think they will be just be able ride at the next place. I hate to say again and again...The next place under attack IS that place.

we're planning on making some reservations this week -- even if we dont get to ride tellico.

as for Beasley -- that was the first place we took derrick's tacoma (on just 32's) off road - and we did just fine following Travis (yellowxj). we'd definitely have to spread out the groups though, it may be a little overwhelming for the trails if everyone went at once.

People could drive over to my shop if they dont have enough to do during the days they're here for the spring fling. We're about 30 miles away. 15 min south of murphy. We could host a timed lap of the short short trails here. Make a little friendly competition out of it. As long as it isnt raining...We made a course to run before for one of our monthly potluck dinners but couldnt complete it cause of too much (4 days) rain. Well...I couldnt complete it in a stock xj on bald tires but the toyota on 42's did pretty good. Not much but better than a hot stick in the eye.

YouTube - My stock cherokee xj jeeps last attempt at the hill climb out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0SzpQrS8ZE)

YouTube - Jerry's toyota on 42's easily drives the optional (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il334J5WFac)

Come play now if you want to. If the forest service gets there way with Tellico, I wont be here next year.

Danny, Wish I could be there to help with the rock crawl etc. I have to unfortunately go to South Africa that weekend to check on the family reserve. I will definately pay you a visit shortly after my return though. Hope the event goes well.

Thanks Gabe. I spoke to Manny and he is still cooking. The only problem is that we don't know how much food to cook. I have about 50 people with reservations, I hear that several are coming but nothing confirmed. So we need people to call in if you plan on coming. If you just show up, you may be watching everyone else eat so great BBQ.

I got it Gabe. The latest detail on the Spring Fling is, since we don't have as much to offer for the rally, due to the FS decison, we are just doing the regular camping rates for the nights you stay. The BBQ dinner plates will be $10 per plate, Manny will also have hamburgers and Hot Dogs for Sat afternoon during the Crawl comp in the campground. You will be able to purchase your Rescue Tellico Swag and donate face to face with SFWDA. This will be a great opportunity to get the details straight and personal. We need your attendance and support. Don't be a "Nay" sayer and give up. Don't give them what they want. :D:D

I want to thank everyone that showed up to support the Rescue Tellico Mission and special thanks to Off Camber 4x4 for stepping up at the last minute to judge the Rock Challenge at the camp. The numbers were lighter than expected, but the weather was perfect, company was great and Manny's BBQ was out of this world. The way I see it, it was a success!

See you guys around!
