Does Pirate4x4 (as an organization) give money to help with land use issues?

The owners of the website are VERY involved with land-use issues.

As for $$, yes. At the King of the Hammers last weekend, one of the owners donated a large sum of money to the Friends of Johnson Valley AND went around collecting even more cash for that organization. I think that was a "personal" donation however...

In terms of land-use, Pirate4x4.com's contributions in other ways have made a MUCH bigger contribution than any donated $$.

Right here on this board:

1. This is the largest and most active land-use forum on any OHV website that I am aware of, and it is updated almost daily with useful info.

2. Many "Friends of" organizations have been started and use this forum to get info out and get volunteers for work parties.

3. The Pirate letter generator has been in use for many differnent letter campaigns. The biggest effects from that generator was on the Boxer/McCown Bill that was wrapped into this last Ombni-bus Bill and defeated AND a sucessful campaign against a "misinformed" Smokey the bear PSA announcement concerning OHV use.

4. Two major "Virtual" rallies were held on Pirate, one for the Hammers trail system in Johnson Valley and one for Upper Tellico in NC. Both recieved media attention.

5. Pirate4x4.com has become a clearing house for info on OHV land-use issues. MANY bigwigs involved in land-use frequent this board to give advice and pass out info. Del Albright himself included.

6. Many FS and BLM meetings were packed by Pirate4x4.com members who were informed about the meetings thru this website.

7. Many local "friends of" orgs also use Pirate to share information, ideas and stratgies with each other.

Right now the Tellico crowd is using this board and working hard on getting public comments for the possible closure of that area in NC.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg for Pirate4x4.com

IMO, this website has become a HUGE "grassroots" huge force in keeping our trails open. And than is more valuable than any dollar figure.
