: Ford 9", what grade are the flange bolts?

The ones that bolt the axle flange to the housing, and hold the shafts in the rearend?

My axle has disk brakes, and getting those stubby little flange bolts in is a royal pain in the ass. Can I safely use longer grade 8 bolts instead of the regular flange bolts? Or, you think Napa or somebody carries longer flange bolts?

Thanks,

I would first off say I don't know what grade they are but think of this how strong is the plate that holds the axel in anyhow? I would use some grade 8's without hesitation if I thought I had the need I also have disc brakes and 9" outers on my 60 and I have only one socket that actually fits in the axel/rotor hole.

That's what I was thinking. that plate bends without much torque to those bolts.
I did use a gr8 in a pinch, when one of the flange bolts got galled up. Didn't see any wear or stress on it when I removed it.

They bolts are 1/2"-20 NF studs and the stover nuts are grade 8 aswell. Stover nuts are ovalized at the top of the nut to provide a self locking feature...
