: XJ front shock hoops

I'm replacing my 14" airshocks with some 16" ORI's and am finding out that my current upper shock mounting aint gonna work:

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa203/woodynorman/frontshockhoops009.jpg

I'm looking for ideas on replacing the hoops to gain the extra room I need (the new mounting point needs to be about 4" higher than the current).

I already know I'm gonna have to go through the hood, I'm just looking for pics/ideas on new hoops, specifically the drivers side, and how to clear the master cylinder.

Thanks,

Rick

Here's idea version 1.0......

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa203/woodynorman/0312091918.jpg

Run the hoops horizontal off the side bars, then tie em together over the top of the motor.

Of course, I'll be using Sch 80 PVC for the final product :flipoff2:

i like that version, seems like it would be sturdy enough... just make sure you use a quality pvc cement when assembling it...

Can you use all of a 16" ORI in front? driveline doesnt bind at some point?

Thats cool if you can...

16" ORI's are only 1.5" longer extended than the 14" Rockequipment's I was running. I'm should have another .5" uptravel if I set it up right, which means another inch of droop at the wheel, which should be usuable...

Between the Tru-Hi9 and the fairly tight limit strap in the center, I should be OK.

Holy dented DOM Batman!

Otherwise I like it. I am curious about those ORI's in the front, and how they work compared to other options.

Here's my report....

Wow!! I am totally impressed with these shocks...I knew that the ORI's would work better than my old airshocks, but I wasn't expecting the whole damn jeep to work sooo much better!

Blasting to and from the trails, it's super stable. Almost no body roll in the corners. I could get it sideways at 40+ and the body barely leaned or rolled. It was wierd staying level, while cornering that fast. They soaked up the big bumps and dips like nobodys business, so much so that I really started noticing every little bump from the rear shocks. These things put my rear airshocks to shame.....

Climbing the steep stuff was like a night and day difference, too...check out these two pics, the first from a few months ago and the second from yesterday. The only change is the shocks. Notice how much unloading I had in the first pic, compared to the second (the angle of the pics is a bit different, but it's the exact same spot...you get the idea). The front end just stays planted now.

Can't wait to get a set of these for the rear!

Here's some more pics from the day......

I'll probably be out at Rockfest, at least for Saturday, as I've got a case of FarmerMatts nuts to donate to the raffle...

Me too....If I do gotta pull the motor, its 2 quick cuts with the sawzall just inside of the hoops, and weld those bolt in brackets once complete.

For that matter, I could just cut out the cross brace completely, and weld in a new one. Not a big deal.
