Wow, does that mean that just being a crewcab adds 1400lbs?
Must be because of a different design in the truck...maybe?

Either that or you need to go on a diet! :flipoff2:

I assume you have a newer body style Ford? There appears to be a shitload of more sheetmetal on them than the older fords.

I'm not really sure why my truck is so light. It must be because it is a Custom and has no options other than the diesel and 4wd. It has no sound deadener, no headliner,a rubber floor mat and manual everything. All the luxury stuff adds weight I guess.

My '74 IH 200HD Crewcab long-box 2wd weighs in at about 6000lbs empty.

3200 front, 2800 rear, IIRC.

345V8, 4spd. 9,000lbs GVWR.

It's getting heavier with the D60 + leafs swap, NP205, and brownie.. but it'll be a lot more fun.

With the 345, Scout on the trailer, extra stuff for friends.. 14,500lbs.. and 9.5mpg. :D

Towed it with a 302/C6 (rebuilt for HD towing). It did all right, slow getting up to speed but was able to maintain 65 most of the time and hardly went above normal operating temps and the tranny shifted beautifully. I can scan in the weigh slip if you're curious.

My GCVW is 12,960 lbs. I weighed it all a month ago.
According to the Scales:

2002 Dodge Ram Quad cab w/ CTD
Front Axle; 3800 lbs
Rear Axle; 3620 lbs
Trailer Axles; 5540 lbs
On the Trailer is 98 TJ.
I last weighed it on the 12th of May, @ 3680 lbs.

That puts the trailer at 1860 lbs. Kinda high, but it is a 20' with 2' dove tail. It is a heavy duty trailer, (2) 7000lbs axles.

Okey dokey, scanned in the weigh slip.

Steer axle- 2140 lbs
Drive axle- 4740 lbs

This was without me in it- add 200 lbs for me to bring the total to 16060 lbs. This is with an empty 33 gallon gas tank in the Bronco, I forgot to fill it up

Yah, unmanned operational scales are nice to have around.
Most of the local highway (not freeway) scales in WA are positioned so they can be used and read without being manned. In fact there is one on a local highway here that has a sign that reminds the workers that when they leave they cannot block the window or view of the scale. This I believe is so people don't break down the door or window to see how much their rig weighs when people aren't manning the place.

No a '88 Pete 378 425 cat 15 spd 4.11 eatons '90 Knight transfer dump rig.
Reminds me of the people my wife works for. They own a construction company so when they go down to the sand dunes they take a dump truck and a low boy with about 10 quads bikes etc and a couple rigs on the trailer. Then everybody else drives their motorhomes. Quite a procession and they often get asked to park the tow rig and trailer down the street at an empty parking lot (at the fire station in Sand Lake OR for example).

Hey Paul thats about right. I have an 80 f350 460/c6/np1350 standard cab long box 4x4 and it scales in at 5400 with 2full tanks but without the canopy. With some rigs I would imagine wheel and tire combos make a difference as well. Rubber is heavy.

Most of the scales in B.C. you can still read the weight if nobody is there. Some have the numbers out where you can see them and some you have to peek in the window. Alberta has quite a few unmanned scales.

Yeah I got all those and pass trans too. Thinking of droping the hazmat. Haven't used it in 10 years and it's the only reason I've had to go to DMV the last 2 times I renewed. Had to take the writen hazmat test, otherwise they'd just exstend it for 4 more years.

I haven't stopped yet, but I've worried every time. :D

I thought it was over 10,000lbs you have to stop, if you're crossing state lines.

I've gone 'round and 'round on this subject with my mom - she's a special investigator for US DOT FHA.

Technically, since I usually haul my race Scout around, and it sports some sponsor logos, I'm a commercial enterprise and subject to all of the DOT BS.

OTOH, no logos, no problem.

Beyond that, Montana is funny in that registering my pickup, I have to register for the GCVW - not the truck GVWR, but the truck + trailer GCVW. I thought that was the case when I registered it, but the lady at DMV said it wasn't (read the Montana Code later) and I managed to at least get her to sign me up at 12k. Then I weight my truck and racer n' trailer at 12,500lbs. My trail rig weighs more.

Getting a good GCVWR for a 1974 IH pickup isn't exactly easy, either. ;) GVWR is 9,000lbs, but I can only find a 6000lbs GTWR in any IH literature.. but I don't think it specifically refers to my 9K rated crewcab.

So what happens when I finally get a gooseneck and haul two rigs? I'll be overweight.. sorta..

My 92 Chevy G30 Extended WB weighs in at 7,200# Betweeb that and a usual towed load of at least 9,000# I am DAMN glad I have a 454, besides after a few mods to that 454 and gearing many of my friends with oil burners are sorta jealous. I can get close to 13MPG on the flats at 75 and mine has a bed and playstation/DVD/and all those niceties;-)

And no I have only scaled it once on the freeway and thats when I was towing with a pal and he was usuing his Pete. They waved me right through with the display showing 18,700 or so if I remember right. (Auto plates, I am exempt in Wis from HAVING to weigh) Although......I did get stopped and weighed in Colorado once not far from Denver...the officer questioned my lack of trailer plates and if I was over weight. (I always am) So I scaled and I forget what I weighed but I explained I was almost positive I was plated for 10K and after trying to run the trailers serial # for verification for 20min he gave up and let me go with a warning to get a new plate.

Okay, I talked to a scale master last week about my F350 dually and 50' trailer. He says the only weight issues that California is concerned about is the tire rating and that I don't have more than 20k lbs. on any one axle. When I axled out at 30k lbs. last time, according to the truck specifications, I had too much weight on the rear axle but the scale master said I was good to go.

1975 Dodge W200 Club Cab, long bed, with 440 and 35" Swampers = 5980 lbs empty with a half tank of gas.

3480 lbs on the front
2500 lbs on the rear

I tow a 1800 lb trailer with a roughly 4500-5000 lb Ramchager on it.
So about 13000+ lbs gross loaded with cargo and passangers.

I know the GVW is 8100lbs, but I can't find any info concerning it's rated GCVW.
