TF-727 if it is a three speed tranny if it is the overdrive unit then I don't remember the number. Dana 44 with a CAD system on it and a Chrysler 9 1/4 rear. Transfer case should be a NP-208 if it is a TF-727 tranny.

Transfer case will be a NP241, the last year for the NP208 was 1987. OD automatic should be a A518. All the other info above should be correct.

How are the A518 and np241??
will they hold up to 300hp and 38 or bigger tires?

i beleive the transmisson has overdrive

I have an 89 power ram for parts that caught fire, it has a tf727 but its finished
what transfer case will it have??

thanks

The transmission will require the largest cooler you can find and you need to leave it in normal drive unless you are going to be over 45 MPH for a while. The NP241 should stand up to 38s pretty well but be careful about shock loading it. What you really need to worry about is the D44, as it will not stand up to 38" or larger tires. The 9 1/4" is a decent rear axle, even though I despise it, but I don't think it is a wise choice for 38s or larger and abuse. If you are mall crawling, it will be ok but I had to put pinion bearings in my show truck with 39s about every 6 months or 9k miles. I would look for D60s. either way you go, you are going to have to drop to at least 4.56 gears if you run 38s. I would go for 4.88s or 5.13s myself. When you go with gears that deep, you have to start worrying about pinion size and that's another reason to toss the D44.

thanks alot for the info

ill look around for a 14 bolt and dana 60, 14 bolts are pretty easy to find around here

i was gonna run those 1/2ton axles till they break but by what you said i think im gonna swap them out first

because this truck will be just for off roading and it will see some rough terrain

I had to replace the Dana 44 and the Chrysler 9 1/4 because of a limited choice of gear ratios. If memory serves the deepest set you can find for the 9 1/4 is a 4.56. I had heard of someone running a 4.88 set but had trouble finding a set. I ran a set of 42" tires on the Dana 44 and the Chrysler 9 1/4 but it was only for a little while.

14 bolt would be a better choice over the dodge 60. The only advantage the dodge 60 has over the 9-1/4 is that it is non C clip. The shafts are virtually the same size. There are also plenty of dodge 70's out there too which would be a bolt in.

BS, a D60 is a much better axle than the 9.25". Tons more gear options, stronger pinion bearing setup, more available lockers and it's full floating. A 14 bolt is a cheap alternative and there are more gear options for them than there used to be. Still not as many as the D60, however. A D70 can be had cheap also and has better options than a 14 bolt and is comparable in size and strength.
