: Ok, opinion time.
Rat~Man 03-15-2009, 07:08 AM 3 contenders for a 9mm carry piece.
Ruger SR9
Taurus PT92
Beretta 92
I like the feel of all the above but the only poly gun I've played with to date that I kinda like is the SR9 but its brand new and no real world news on it to speak of. Yes, we have a Glock 19 in stock and no, I dont like it. Grip angle screws with me. The SR9 is in stock as is a XDm. What the deal is the hot girl from the hair salon at the end of the building has taken a liking to my Security Six and wants the thing. If she follows through I'm looking for a 9mm carry piece the wife is not afraid of so give me some suggestions. (no she is married and I did not offer to take it out in trade :flipoff2:)
I've heard good things about the EAA Witness as well but have never seen one.

Otherwise SR9 would be my choice, but I havent shot one.
kwrangln 03-15-2009, 07:21 AM S&w m&p.
Rat~Man 03-15-2009, 07:24 AM Of course you fawks dont pick anything we have in stock. :flipoff2:
I'll look at the Sigs and the M&P's.
Anyone got a slide for a S&W 29-2? I'm wanting to ditch the 439 slide with its monsterfugly rear sight. Or ideas on how to get rid of that ugly bastard?
edit: The M&P "Spec Ops" is kinda strange. Threaded barrel and all. That rail is one ugly thing though. Sig 220 Combat
Mr.RonGilbert 03-15-2009, 07:36 AM Three good choices there.... I like the Ruger first even though I have not owned one. I have owned the Beretta and it was a nice shooting gun (especially with those cute little 9mm bullets). The Taurus is a licensed reproduction of the Beretta 92... made in a former Beretta factory in Brazil. <-- I did not know this until I did some searching on the net. If you gotta shoot a 9mm then its a toss up with these three in my book.
HK USP & P2000 9mm are also nice choices although not on your list...

The Taurus is a very good copy of the Beretta and it's a good value.
kwrangln 03-15-2009, 07:44 AM You keep mentioning "in stock", so assuming you work at a gunshop, just order a regular ole M&P9. Dealer pricing will be pretty cheap for ya from S&W, give it a shot and if you don't like it throw it on the shelf for sale. I wouldn't bother with the spec ops unless you wanted to run a can on it. If you want to run a can later, you can buy the spec ops barrel from S&W for about $90, probably less with dealer pricing. Check the faq, I put a link in there for a DIY trigger job on the M&P that supposedly works like a champ, havn't tried it myself yet though. At any rate, dryfire with snap caps, or just go shoot for about 500 rds and everything smooths out real nice like.
I'm at 1900 rds with mine, and have never cleaned it, not even when it was new. Just dropped a lil CLP where the manual said to and went shooting. The only other lube it's seen was a couple drops of Slide Glide on the rails before the last range trip. Damn thing just runs like a top.
Rat~Man 03-15-2009, 07:48 AM Yeah, I work in a shop on Saturdays. Dave just got the thing open 3 weeks ago and I'm helping him out. Unloading some of my stuff and replacing it with other stuff at the same time. I tell you what though, some of the distributors are a pain in the ass to deal with.
ZjSteveO 03-15-2009, 08:41 AM beretta 92. i am a ham fisted ogre and many of the smaller carry pieces do not fit my hands like the beretta does.
I've got my CCW class range time in a couple hours. Instructor is letting my try out his CZ75 compact. The EAA Witness is a copy of the CZ75. I'll let you know what I think later this afternoon.
I've shot a Witness a long time ago and remember liking it.
Frankenyota 03-15-2009, 09:46 AM Conceal a Beretta 92?
I'd recommend a XD9 or XD9 subcompact, Sigma (I hate them but most people don't), or an HK P2K or USP9c. I love my CZ75, so you can't really go wrong with a PO1 either.
Rat~Man 03-15-2009, 09:53 AM Dude I'm 6'6" 220. You;d be surprised what I can conceal. My normal carry is either a Security Six or a PT1911. Plus for summer wear there is the little PA63. Although I might be doing Docs hammer bob on it.
My hands are huge and really have a hard time with the little dainty things. that 63 is all I can get ahold of. Although with the grip change the PT22 is a decent fit and being 22lr recoil is non existent. One of those might become a shorts pocket piece.
The CZ 75bd has a certian appeal. I saw one awhile back in OD that was really cool and felt nice in the hand.
White7 03-15-2009, 09:55 AM For "carry" out of those 3,,,,,,Ruger SR9

Have you shot one? If so, thoughts and what are you used to? The thing points natural for me and the balance is nice with a loaded mag. However, I felt the same way about the HP9 I bought and cant hit shit with it but Dave and my wife do fine with it. However, my 439 works well for me but, my wife cant hit a damn thing with it. All in what fits and points I guess.
Ben Segrest 03-15-2009, 11:51 AM I prefer the frame mounted safety of the taurus over the slide mount on the beretta.

CZ75 compact - I like it.
shot it back to back with a M&P 9mm (didn't like it much) and a Walther PPS - which I also really liked.
Compared to the PPS, the CZ weighed about the same empty. The CZ was a bit wider overall, which made it fit my hand better and gave it a higher capacity, but also makes it slightly harder to conceal.
I'm hoping to pick up the CZ in the next week or two.
Blue Chip 03-16-2009, 06:55 AM Walther PPS.
Excellent concealed carry gun. My wife shoots it as well and loves it.

I don't care. Glock 19.
Most perfect cary gun evar. You just don't know any better. :flipoff2:

"Hang on, quit fucking moving around while I reteach myself sight lines again!"
Good guns, cant hit shit with one. Constantly shooting high and then take too long to rethink what I'm doing. At least with a 1911 I can pull the thing out and put 8 where I want them. With enough practice I'd be fine with it but, as soon as I grabbed the 1911 or the 439 I'd be back in the same boat. Yeah, I need more range time but just do not have the time or cash right now.
TNToy 03-16-2009, 07:20 AM I don't care. Glock 19.
I'll stop now...

:flipoff2: "Plastic bullshit"
 Send me 3K of 9 and I'll do it.
TNToy 03-16-2009, 07:56 AM Send me $375 and I'll do it.

300sniper 03-16-2009, 08:38 AM yep, if glock would make all the same models with a 1911 grip angle variant, i buy one of each. i have too many usp's and 1911's to start shooting glocks now.
that being said, if i was to have only one pistol, i think it would be a g23. i think it would be good for plinking, ccw and nightstand duty.
edit: oops, i thought i was responding to the other thread where he was going to have only one pistol.

LOL, I have several pitols and all of them have '11 grip angles.
sinistertrucker 03-16-2009, 11:33 AM The 92's are great pistols but I wouldn't even try to conceal one.
That said, I have been interested in the SR9 but have not seen one to fondle.
Oh, and Kahr P45.
SilverZuk 03-16-2009, 12:30 PM I like some features of the SR 9, but after handling one I still decided I was going with a Glock 17.
I have tried to buy a few so far, but never could agree on price.
