hey guys i know this was discussed at some point but i cant seem to find the post.

i have a set of junkyard 60 shafts, the u joints were seized pretty bad and the ball joint press was not big enough to pop the caps. so i slapped the bastad in the shop press and a couple of squeez's and booom they broke free.

so i slapped the new ujoints back in and one set of shafts were fine but the long side inner ears seem to be bent to the point where i cant get the clips in by a long shot.

i put it together and figured what the hell let it run like that it doesnt effect the workings of the joint, but i am concerned about the caps coming out. now i dont run it onroad with the hubs locked unless something ends up happening to the rear.

i remember reading someone saying something about detunsing or something like that. whats the best way to get this shaft back where it needs to be?

Every time I have had a problem getting a U-joint clip in.. its because of a needle bearing that fell off of the cap sidewall during installation of the cap.. keeping it from going in all the way....

Pull the caps back out carefully and I bet you find a lone needle bearing laying in the grease in the bottom of the cap...
Unless you can obviously tell that the ear is bent......

BAHAHAHAHA,,,,,yup, know the feeling. nothing like doing a "routine" axle/u-joint swap on the trail, and look like an ass because the fawking u-joint wont seat deep enough to put the c-clip on (this easy task took upwards of 2 hours to complete!). Then finally figuring it out while remembering the ole shop press used to reomve the 25year old rusted basttadzzz!!!

I eventually beat them straight (open) by put'em on my bumper and smacking the dog shite out of 'em with a BFH.

When I got home, I put the rest of them together by placing the ear on an anvil and hitting them so they opened more. BUT, this was on a 44 and a 60 may require HARDER smiz-acks!!

I hate looking like an azzz in front of my fellow wheelers:flipoff2: :D

Yep, my Harbor Freight ball joint press bent my axle ears before the u-joint caps were able to let go, dunno how I was gonna bend them back so I put the caps on minus the clips cuz I was in a rush and was desperate. It held up for most of the weekend and finally spit the caps out during a rally race I was doing.
