I searched.....really. but seriously, what's the diffrence between the two??? I wanna do a v8/sm465/dual cases in my toy and I almost bought the 4wd version earlier tonight....seems like everyone wants the 2wd version.....Also, is there a diffrence in the 'bout '84ish and newer that have the nice chrome handle??? I'll probably get flamed but I'm looking for a straight answer....Thanks in advance!!!! Dave:confused:

Different spline counts on the output only, the input is the same as all Chevy manual trannies, unless it came out of a dump truck, then it may have the larger input shaft. The output shaft spine only matters if your adapter kit does not replace the mainshaft of the trans, If it uses a spud shaft they will probably tell you to stay stay away from '82 4WD SM465's with the long 32 spline output.

Here is a pic of the OTT coupler, looks like 10 spline to me, but I would call just to make sure. Those trannies came with 10(4wd), 32(4wd) and 35(2wd) spline outputs.

Yup, that's 10 spline (I took my shoes off and counted) so it should work with a pre '81 4wd SM465, and some 2wd SM465's, not all 2 wheelers were 35 spline output, some were a short 10 spline and SM420 2wd were also available in short 10.

I used to wheel fullsize Chevy's before I got the Jeep bug, but I still use the good stuff on my Jeep, I've always loved the old GM truck fourspeeds, that's why I run an SM420 in my Jeep. My home town has more lifted trucks and Jeeps per capita than probably any other town in the midwest, at one time nearly everyone I knew was running a fullsize Chevy on 35's or bigger. Oh yeah, and I buy almost every rotted out old Chevy or Jeep I come across.
