Hello,

I've had my currie heavy duty steering for a few years now. Today, while rotating the tires, I discovered the reason I was getting death wobble. It seems the ball joint is broke. I can shake the wheel on the right side easily.

My question, before I tear into is, can I just wrench down on this to tighten it up, or do I need to replace the whole thing. I would just give the wrenching a go, but if it's going to be pointless, then I don't want to bother doing that.

Thanks for your help Pirate

If the ball joint is shot then no you cannot just wrench it down. You will have to replace the joint if possible.

That's what I'm afraid, but it seems to be all one piece. Anyone have experience replacing a ball joint?

The thing in the middle of the picture is the Tie-Rod End. While it is a 'ball joint', it isn't what is typically referred to as a ball joint (those are located at the top and bottom of the 'C' at each end of the axle). From your picture, it is the right tie rod end that you will need to replace. NOTE: Replacing this piece affects your alignment. You will have to re-align the vehicle after replacing this part. They are not terribly expensive, and fairly easy to replace once you learn how to 'pop' the tapered piece out of the steering knuckle. Good Luck!

P.S. If this is some form of aftermarket steering, you may have to get the parts from Currie, as the stock units may or may not be compatible with this kit.
