Ok, a friend has a rolled tracker and wants to know if I want the gears or anny parts. I allready have a 1600 in my samurai, but I was thinking of putting the rearend out of the tracker under my samurai. Because of the low gears in the tracker. What I want to know is, is the tracker rearend stronger or better in any way? Is it worth it for the gears? Strenght? Thanks:confused:

Are you buying it or is he giving it?
is it 4x2 or 4x4 model?
stick or auto?
You could use the rear third member for parts for a Hybred axle,
it depends on what you want and use the Zukie for.
do a search on this, there are alot of threads to look at. alot of good info here. look for it:D

I believe the Sidekick 3rd's are somewhat bigger and stronger than the Sami 3rd's. Not really sure though, but since people don't generally blow up 3rd's anyway, the strength thing is probably irrelevant (limiting factors are the birfields and axles). The Kick axles are quite a bit wider and set up for coils. Since there is no possibility for a matching front axle with their IFS design, the common method of using the Kick stuff is a hybrid (Kick center section with Sami axles) in the rear and either putting the aluminum front from the Kick in the Sami or transferring the R&P to the Sami 3rd.
I may want the front third member if its a 4x4 and has 5.125 gears in it.

The tracker is a 5-speed 4x4, and I was told that it has the 5.12s as gears. How would I know what gears it has? Is there any way to put the tracker gears in the samurai?

The front R&P set will bolt to your Sami carrier. Any idea if the trannie/t-case is available, if so how much?

No, the Tracker rear is bigger. Front Tracker swaps straight into the front Sami diff. Front tracker diff also goes into Sami rears but sidegears have to be changed first as front and rear axles have different splines. :flipoff2:

The rear Tracker 3rd member is larger than the Samurai.
The pinion is larger as well which means itis stronger and why people make the hybrid axle to install in a Samurai.
In order to make use of the Tracker rear, you must "splice" is with your Samurai axle. The samurai axle shafts are used, the Samurai axle tubes are used. Your best bet on how to build your own hybrid axle would likely come from a websearch. I'm sure someone has documented their modification.
For the front, though the 3rd member will bolt in, it is not reocmmended. The Tracker housing is aluminum and will bust open is hit ona rock. On the Tracker is is somewhat protected by a frame crossmember. On the Samurai though, it is breakage waiting to happen. you're much better off just pulling the gears out and installing them into your Samurai 3rd member.
