: Brake Upgrade, I did a search.

OK, first I did the search, and DID find a lot of good stuff, but I got some questions, so :flipoff2: .

I'm talking a 1983 CJ-7 with factory power brakes on quasi-factory axles. Discs up front, drums in the rear.

1) I understand the GM dual booster route with the E-350 MC is an option.

2) I understand the ZJ booster/MC is an option.

3) I understand the 1968 corvette is an option.

I would really prefer to do the MC swap only, so, my questions:

Can I use the 1968 MC if I'm NOT running all-wheel discs?

Can I use the E350 MC on a CJ booster? If so, is it a straight swap?

Is there another MC bolt on that would work better for my application?

Do I need to do anything with my proportioning valve?

I apologize for adding to the mass of brake questions lately, but I'm looking for a project this weekend, and I didn't find anything that shed light on these aspects of my problem.

You can also use a dual diaphram booster off a 86-88 caddy, for more braking pressure. Install is almost bolt up. There should be some write ups out there somewhere.
Just another option.

A YJ Booster works as well.

you shouldn't use an MC for a 4-disc app. unless you have the discs in back. drum brakes need a residual valve inthe MC to maintain line pressure. MC's for discs don't have this.

I personally used an MC from a 1-ton chevy truck on my 83 CJ.
I could be wrong, but Iwas under the imoression that only YJ's would accept the Ford boosters, and CJ's the Chevy boosters?

really, you're not going to get really good braking until you get a dual diaphragm booster. I've been down this road on my CJ, and it was real headache. its sucks to shell out $200 for a booster over $40 for a MC, but the the first tiem you DON'T rearend the car in front of you, it pays for itself.

I don't mind the $'s but I wanna do this ONCE. If you were going to do the dual diaphram and MC combo, exactly what combination would you use?

Caddy, GM, Chevy

So I am running a mid 70's set of waggy axles on my -5. I have a YJ power assist MC with the factory disks on the front axles and post '88 Cheb disc/caliper on the back. While I know this is different from the post, am I still alright? thanks
