Does anyone have any info on this? It looks like a good setup for the price, and is rated to a 35" tire, up to 200 lbs, so 36's shouldn't be a problem. It mounts to the body, but there are sandwich plates for the inside and it mounts to the tailgate too, so I'm assuming it'll be very strong. I'm most interested in the price, which is around $230, which sure beats the $500 most carriers are running. The only thing I'm wondering about is how in the heck you open the gate with the tire offset to the left a little like that. Seems like a tight squeeze. Here's some info I found, but if anyone else has seen one and can tell me more, I'm listening

New for SEMA, Bestop has a new award winning tire carrier for those that want to carry a larger tire on the Wrangler without losing the convenience of the one latch opening of the rear tail gate! This well thought out product is great for the Wrangler owner that wants to carry a larger tire on the back of their Jeep. It bolts to the right body corner and includes inside backup plates for strength. The door end of the rack swings with the tailgate to maintain easy operation and entry into the back of the jeep

there are also reinforcers that bolt to the roll bar mounts - guess they keep the body from buckling out? i saw that in my new 4wheelparts mag this week and wondered the same thing...

I am thinking I will call 4 wheel parts hardware and see if they have one.
If they do I think its worth the 1 hr drive to see it in person. I think I like it.

235.00 aint bad if it will work. And I dont really like anyone elses tire carrier.

If they have it and I go. I will take the digital camera and shoot some spy pics for ya.

jeepster1220, Let me know if you want to ride out. email.

Its a bit more expensive, but the 4wheeldrive hardware bumper/spare tire carrier is quite stout.

P&T,
I've seen their tire carrier and like it alot, but there's a big difference between $230 and $530. I wish I had the money for one of the full bumper/carrier combo's, but there are too many things I need (One big ass dent in my gas tank has shown the need for a skid plate now ) If this carrier would do the job well, that's all I ask of it

Bellyup,
I called 4WD Hardware and they don't have them in yet, but expecting them real soon. they told me to call back early this week. I found the carrier at www.jimsoffroadwarehouse.com (http://www.jimsoffroadwarehouse.com) for $219, so including shipping it would work out to 4WD hardwares pre-shipping price. If 4WD will price match, I'd rather buy it from them because I like that place alot... Jim's didn't have them in either but also said to call back mid-week.

If you wanna run out and 4WD will match the price, we can head out together... Later :

Check back with me. I might be buying a tow rig tomorrow. If the deal goes I wont have any cash for the tire carrier.

I will have to use it for a down payment instead. But its all good. I'll still ride out. Who knows maybee I'll CHARGE IT!
