What do you recommend for a place to stay in Clayton OK? How close are the trails to town? Can you trailer to them?

everyone's always told me A&A, and told me that they drive to the trailhead *shrug*

I've yet to make it to Clayton :emb:

We stayed at the Clayton Country Inn. Not the Hilton, but it wasn't bad (food was good). A buddy of ours stayed at A&A, and he said he would never stay there again. BTW we trailered all our rigs to the trail.

Thanks for the info.

Are there any trail raitings or pics posted anywhere?

Wondering if a Rubi Unlimited on 35s can hang on the trails with us.

The Rubi can hang on most of the trails. We ran it with 32's, 36's, and 37's. You just need to be locked and have good skids and a winch. Oh and I stayed at the Clayton COuntry Inn, Rooms are clean and the food is good. The food at the restaurant right there in town is real good also.

I will ditto that. WE also drove all over town with no plates. Just do the speed limit. They are strict about that.

BTW not everything is that hardcore, but that's what we like.
Clayton is by far the best wheeling I have ever done. We will be going back, probably once a year. You will have a great time.

Note: I didn't get much help from the local NAPA/Feed stoor.....yeah thats
right the NAPA has more horse and cow feed than they do parts, but they were able to get me back on the trail.

The Clayton Country Inn is a great place to stay, beds are warm, showers hot, food is great and the people are even better! They dont mind if you get a little rowdy outside at night either :D

My vote is for the Clayton Inn also. Good people, good food ,and a decent place to sleep. We're staying there first weekend in April. Looks like everyone is heading out there in the near future! Last time we were up there we saw a few trailers parked near Green Acres. I plan to trailer mine up to the trails as well.

We stayed at the AA. Drove our rigs to the store to get ice for beer and there was a cop in the parking lot.....he didnt say shit. Drove to the trail, nothing, drove back from the trail at 2, 3, 4, 5 am and nothing. Mud God got scolded for getting on his shit in town but no ticket. You can drink beer and have fires down behind the AA but keep the radios down cause there is a cop that lives next door I think. We used to stay out of town at the Sardis Lake Camp at Steves place,......cant remember the exact name. Not sure I will do that again.....too far out of town and the resturant next door is decent but kinda pricey. I tried to reserve a room there last Thanksgiving and he said he did not take reservations but just show up and I would be taken care of......got there and had no freakin room. Screw that!

We are regulars at the Clayton Country Inn, if you can ask for room #8, its big. The cabins should be open as well they are roomy and will easily sleep six if you don't mind cuddling up with your wheelin buddies. The CCI is further away than the A&A but nicer. If you go with the A&A ask for the Annex, right next to The Bulldog rest. its nicer than the motel part of the A&A. Stay away from the Sardis Inn, cockroaches will carry you off in the night. Run the crap out of Green Acres but also try and hit Freilings, he is 20 miles north of Clayton but he's got some good wheelin but is being neglected due to the convienence of Green Acres to town. At Green Acres, there is plenty of trailer parking available at Slims if you choose to go that route. Have fun

We always stay at the A&A. I drive my buggy to the store and to the trails from there. Last time I was there I was going to the store for gas and passed a cop he turned around and followed me to the store. When he got out he looked at the buggy for a while and then asked me to just make sure I was off the roads by dark, since I didnt have any lights.

we stayed at A/A, we drove to get gas, food, to the trails....Mike said as long as your cool about it.....basically they understand that wheelers bring $$$$ to town....but don't act like you own the place.

A/A they have stoves and ref...they have some pots and pans but if you have a lot of folks bring some big pans.

We liked the convienence of being able to drive your rig to the trails. We did trailer a few times....

Pizza shop is good...course after PB&J ANYTHING hot was good!

If you have issues and need a mechanic SLIM is the man....the guy did some work for my brothers...changed a starter, radiator work, moved the airfilter....for $50, including the starter....the guy is nice as hell and knows his shit..and is cheap....his place is on the road to GA...

just my 2 cents worth.......ah, and DON'T go in frickin the end of July...we set a record....108 degrees....:mad3:

Just to add to this thread for future reference: I'm with Redruuster-- avoid the Sardis Inn.. We stayed a night there in November.. The place was a dump. I would have rather tent camped in the cold than stay in that place again.

there was one of those ratchet wrenches in the shower to turn the water on and off with.. lmao

The Clayton Country Inn was pretty clean and nice though.
Clayton is a blast! Can't wait to go back!
