I have a 75 SII that is a dd / weekend fish/hunt camp/trail ride truck. Needs a new battery I want to get an Optima. Red top, yellow top which is the best for this type use.

Thanks Al

I run wal-marts in everything except my s10(optima, cause i thought it looked cool). You only need to buy one and you are set for life although the warantee policy has changed for some stores.
If you ever take one back though, dump the acid out first or they will take FOREVER to test it and tell you that it's bad anyway. If you take the thing down to 0 volts more than once, a walmart battery is done for though.

Before the warantee expires on any of the batteries I run I just dump em out and take em back. Especially handy if you have a diesel with two batts.

Word of warning, six 78-series batters in a walmart cart at a time is about the limit.

Optima (red tops are junk now, yellows and blues seem to still be OK), or any other sealed/gel type battery if you wheel hard and have a good chance of being upside down.

If its just a driver/hunting rig, and the odds of being on your side are slim to none, then just any good old battery will work. I run batteries from Costco in most of my rigs, they work very well, are cost effective, and easy to get. Most of the time they last beyond the warranty period as well.

Don't waste your money on a "special" battery if you don't need it.

Delco Voyager deep cycle. Never had one of these leak or the terminals corrode (unlike virtually every other fluid-type battery I've ever had).
