: At what point do you call it something else?

Looking at the pics of that cool pink "Bronco" started me thinking about this again. Nice 4by, but personally I wouldn't all it a Bronco, IMO it has evolved to the point of Rock Buggy. AT what point can you really call a vehicle by a name that it has very little of left? This is especially noticeable on the crawling circuit, most vehicles that are called Jeep or whatever don't have ANY Jeep left in them, etc. IMO, once you go more than half tube frame, no longer original drive train, then you don't have a vehicle that is named what you started out with. Yeah, kinda like funny cars. Sorry about the rant.:flipoff2:

as long as the title says Jeep, I'll call it a Jeep.

Ricke Pewe wrote an article a while back talking about how his Jeep is a stock GPW, I'll just use that logic when calling mine stock.

Not the first time I've been involved in discussion on this topic.

My $.02: ... if it has a Jeep grill and the tub has Jeep stamped in it, then it's a Jeep. A fabricated (tube) frame doesn't change it any more than any other fabricated or aftermarket part.

I would call that bronco a bronco.. fawk it, as long as it still kind of looks like what it was .. call it that. I dont really like the term rock buggy, unless you cant call it anything else.

Well, the two Broncos is question I would say would be JRs and Lee's
- Lee's I would say is definitly a Bronco. The body panels are metal EB panels, the front 2/3 of the frame is EB frame, the grill and firewall(?) is EB - everything has evolved from an original '72 EB, so yes its an EB. There are pleanty of other EBS out there that are set up very simaler with upgraded axles, tranny, T-case, engine ect - the only difference is Lee has chopped the back 1/3 of his frame off and replaced it with tube (at least he's still running a Ford engine, how many "trick" Jeeps are still running AMC engines?)
-JR's Bronco is where I can see it both ways. Personally I still call it a Bronco. With or without the skins it still havs a look of an EB, even it it doesn't have an EB frame or much in the way of EB skin left - If I'm not mistaken, when it was designed, it was designed to be a functional buggy, but also look and have the feel of an EB. Maybe I'm just biased, but it still has the EB additude, which solidifies it as an EB with me. Some rigs just have a Jeep/Cruiser/etc additude - JR's is EB.

When a girl goes to the doctor and has plastic surgery done, it's all artifical but we still call them tits.

If it looks like tits we call them tits
If if looks like a jeep we call it a jeep
No body work at all, just call it a buggy

At what point does NASCAR quit calling it a Taurus or a Monte Carlo..... or better yet what about NHRA... when do they quit calling it a Mustang.

I used to have a "real" Bronco. It started out with a 3" lift and 33s. Over the years it evolved to having d60s, 42s, wristed radius arm etc. After competing in it once, it was clear that there was too much "Bronco" on my bronco. About this time, Pat Gremillion had chopped 8" out of the width of his bronco. Cool. So I got another bronco tub and did the same. It sat in the garage for a few months after I had chopped it while plans were being made to turn it into a "rock buggy bronco," my goal. Around this time the hybrid portal axle idea started taking shape. I couldn't use the bronco frame anymore and there was still too much body.
This is when I decided it was *easier* to make a rock buggy look like a bronco (with the help of Fat City) than turn a bronco into a rock buggy.
I like the funny-car analogy. That's what I was after. The door panels are 5" longer (to stretch the overall length for the wheelbase) but the "body" is narrower, thinner, and tapered. It's similar to a bronco but it's skewed--dimented. I coundn't meet hese requirements with a stock bronco body, so just the skins were used.
I dig rigs that look like something familiar (no offense, but I am not talking about a jungle gym) and it seems others do to.
There is not much "Bronco" left on my bronco now, but wherever possible, I kept the drivetrain Ford, ie. engine, transmission and (besides the unimog outers) the axles.

Do I still call it a bronco? You bet!

If you get so far into it that you can only tell what it was by looking at a grill or some body panels... just call it a money pit!

Its mine, i built it, i'll call it whatever the fuck i want. In my case it retains an isuzu frame, a rear axle and most of a body, therefore i call it an amigo. At least until my Opel Frontera Badges arrive :flipoff2: tho really i'll still call it an amigo, you'll just have to ask to find out. as for the tube rigs, if it looks like an EB, or a heep or a toy, just call it that. who the fuck really cares what it is underneath anyways. When i'm on a trail i'm not gonna say to my girlfriend, "Hey check out that cool tube buggy truck looking 4 wheeled blue and silver thing over there", I'm just gonna say "Hey check out JRs BRONCO" its just too much of a pain in the ass, just call it as it looks, and if its yours call it whatever the fuck you want, hell i know a guy with a dodge ram that swears its an Isuzu, even has the badge.
