well the jeep is getting worn out after several rolls and lots of hard beatings. the current drivetrain is good so it will all be going into this 1970 fj40. i sold everything i didn't need and you see what i am left with. my 99 vortec 350, th400, atlasII, 63" wide d60 front, 14bolt rear, and 42 tsl's will be going on this rig. i am still unsure of the suspension but now it is looking like soa in the front and coils in the rear but i have changed my mind so many times now who knows what it will be when i get that far. here is what i have now and my jd2 bender will be put to good use on it. anyway here are the pic's:

the jeep is in the shop right now with a broken adapter plate. i have a new one and i hope to get it all put back together tommarrow and when it is done the jeep is coming out and this is going in. anyway i have been wanting to do a project like this for some time. the only added sheet metal is going to be the hood and the grill the back and the front fenders are al going to be tube. i am rough on sheet metal so i figure i'll get rid of as much of it as i can. anyway.....:D

WOW, now this is a smart jeep guy, he knows what to do:flipoff2:
Are you and Nolen in competion on who can roll the most?:flipoff2:
Are you going to try to keep the cruiser looks as much as you can or make a "Lance" type rig?

Joseph A.

I like this one for a tube FJ-40

the blue one is probably closer to what i have in mind. the tube laout will be different. i plan on the rig to be about 3" shorter than my jeep is now. the jeep is just a springover usign rear cj pack at all 4 corners and it also has a 3" body lift. i still had to remove alot of fender to fit the 42's. my plan with the fj/buggy is for the set up to end up like what mine is now if i were to loose the body lift. i think the hight on 42's with stock hight springs will be just about right. i wil not run the stock fenders. i plan to build something along the lines of metal menders fenders. they will be tube framed and will come up as high as the hood for added clearance for the 42's. i have been planning this project for over a year. i was actually going to this using the front clip of my jeep but a roll last feb in clayton smashed my hood up pretty good and even the cowl is getting pretty bad so when i found the 70' cruiser for $600 i could not pass it up. plus i made $$$ with all of the stuff i sold off of it. it worked out pretty good. i was going to wait a while longer and keep wheeling the jeep but when i pulled my t-case out after katemcy to remove the broken adapter plate i found quite a few frame cracks so it has given me some incentive to start. anyway i am anxious to get this thing going. my work on jeep/cruiser time is some what limited so it won't be done next week. i do hope to have it done by the first of the year though. we'll see.

I was trying to figure out at Katemcy, is your jeep a CJ-5 or CJ-6? It looks longer then a 5 but your name says 5 so I was just wondering.

i cut my cj5 in half and lengthened it about 3 years ago. yep it kinda looks like a 6. i now have a 100" wheelbase cj5. i will be taking the cruiser out to 105 range. i thinkg the added wheelbase will work alittle better with the 42's

Amen brutha, good to see someone has thier priorities straight! The brainwashed diehard Cruiser/Jeep guys annoy the hell out of me. I say if it's a short wheelbase w/removable top, it's cool! I am thinking of doing just the reverse of you-I have a Cruiser and I'm thinking of building a Jeep buggy:eek:...I can hear the Cruiser guys panties wadding already:D :D :D

Oh and, nice Jeep.
