Ok, as some of you prolly know, my retarded ass didnt set the steering stops properly and my steering box cap got pushed out by the piston which effectivly fubared the cap. So I went to pick'n pull and got another cap, popped it in, everything looked great.. got all the air out of the system.. ready to drive it around the block, my friend is turning the tires back in forth a little.. all of a sudden the cap cracks... what gets me is the steering was maxed towards the passenger side, not drivers like last time so it could not have been the piston since it comes out when you turn to the left, correct? So what gives? Why did it crack? We are gonna weld the fawker but I just dont understand why this happened?
At this point I dont care about looking like a dumbass, its the last step in my SAS and I wanna finish it.. if it matters its a scout 2 box.
THANK YOU!

I blew the cap out once on mine by turning it too far. inspect your entire box and make sure that nothing else was broke. when mine went it too the lip off too (it broke the integrity of the lip)...so the box was trash cause it wouldn't hold the pressure and seal anymore.
just a thought.

Thing is mine was maxed to the right.. which means the piston is all the way in, so I understand how the cap was under pressure?
Oh well.. cant weld it either, need to get another one (again) :(

Here is what a guy from work told me.... does this make sense?:
" U got something wrong with your pressures or something, perhaps U should regulate it down with a restictor.
Find out what the working pressure it on a scout and on a ranger then adjust accordingly"
BTW.. its a 98 ranger with stock pump and everything, just waggy d44 and scout box.

COULD OUR PUMP BE TOOO MUCH FOR THE SCOUT BOX?

Now that is the first good suggestion that I have heard since I started lurking on this thread!
You need to know what PSI the Ranger? pump is giving your box...
The BYPASS cartridge is what protects the BOX from blowing its lines or caps. The Ranger pump might be inherently the wrong pump to begin with.
One thing you could try is doing the opposite of the High Pressure modification that is done on GM Scout style pumps. Instead of increasing the spring rate by adding washers or shims to the BYPASS cartridge, you could try to lower the spring rate of the bypass spring...assuming it is the same style! If the Ranger uses orifices for pressure metering then you are just plain.....
:flipoff2: 'ed!!!!
the simplest thing to try is to put a "choke" or orifice limiter into your High Pressure line...But I would not mess with high pressure lines personally.

Is Ford still using the same pump, a CII? From what I've heard, these thing are a bit pathetic on both pressure and volume. My ARB can fully max mine out when its locked.
