Finally got to work on the rig again ( it lives 45min from where i live right now) Texican told me the bearing retainer on the front of the trans should be snug in the bellhousing. i got a new bell housing (cast iron w/ the feet on the bottom) and the hole in it is 5" in dia. and the retainer is 4.75" Close enough? that's not snug in my book, but i got the exact bellhousing Texican poste d the pic of. what gives?:mad: oh well time for some cold:beer:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news........BUT......

Chevy made two different sizes of bearing retainers.

You already have both sizes in your post.

I could be wrong, but you might be able to just find the larger 5" retainer, and swap that onto your tranny, instead of finding a bellhousing with the smaller hole........

see if spaceghost will make a spacer ring that correct size to adapt yur retainer to yur b.h.. fore the 420 to 2f i got a retainer from him for that setup so i know he CAN make it. just a matter of how much hassle for one would be.

Very good idea, actually I talked with a machine shop today who is going to make just such an item for me. (on saturday!!, this guy is cool) just sucks i gotta be there at 5:30 A.M. to get it done. SO, i've got to drive 1.5 hrs round trip to pick up the parts i should have taken home with me last night, AND get up at 5 AM to go to the machine shop.So Why am i sitting here drinking :beer: and playing on the net????

I don't think that I would go to all that trouble to get up at 4:30 and drive 1.5 hr just for that. I would just get a strip of 1/8 x 3/8 steel, wrap it around the bearing retainer, tack weld it and be done with it.
