okay I have a 12V cummins for a tow truck but it has the crappy auto tranny which is starting to get worse and worse, from what I have gathered from the preveous owner it is the 4th tranny in 272,000 miles. I know of all the problems with this tranny and in looking over some rebuild options the cost is 3000+ including torque converter. That is a lot of coin, and it might not last more than the current 50,000 miles on a tranny ritual. So I have 2 options as I see it but am having problems finding info.
I can rebuild it with better parts anyone know someone out there that rebuilds the auto other than tst and a good price. they list the rebuild kit for 300 but others have it installed for like 1800 that seams like a lot of labor, I have played with one tranny before so how different can this one really be?
or my real question is what about the nv4500 swap. I can not find anything about doing the swap, obviousely it was an origional option but what is the length differnce? spline count issues? bellhousing would bolt up I am sure? basically I would try to find a junkyard with all the parts there, slave cylinder, pedal, lines everything and swap it over throw in a good clutch and be done with it, I am sure it will cost plenty but at least it will last for a while.
any ideas on the possibility of this? and yes I did a search here and on google and came up with very little
