IM SAS'n my 93 F150 and ran into a problem. the spindles on the 79 F150s dana 44 are pretty banged up around the threads where the lock nuts go. is there a way to rethread them? i was going to try using a spare lock nut and rethread it using some oil for lube and go slow to see if it cleans the threads up.

if not, will the spinldes off my 93s TTB work? they have 5 bolt holes that bolt it to the knuckle like the 79s, i cant compare them side by side but going by the pictures i have they seem fairly close.

if not ill hit up the pick n pulls to see what i can find.

also, just for curiousity, approx how much lift does a person gain with using a solid axle over the TTB? i have read the TTB upper coil towers will add around 1.5-2" plus spring lify height. does the solid axle itself gain any lift? i read it does due to the location of the lower coil retainers. thanx

flame suit on!

They won't fit.
You need new ones.

A few years ago, I found an interesting tool in a truck I was scrapping out- I do'nt know what it is technically called, but I came to the conclusion that it is for cleaning up damaged external threads. Best way I can describe it is it is like 1/2 inch square stock that is about 8-10 inches long. On each flat on each end(8 total), there is a different thread pattern. Pick out whichever thread pattern you need, and use it like a file. I have used it a couple of times now- once on some sort of spindle as I recall. It doesnt do a perfect job, but it made a huge improvement.

That tool you found would be a thread file, more accurately called a thread comb.

not that pricey considering the importance of the part

What makes them not fit? just wondering.

IIRC the register on the knuckle side is shorter on the ttb spindle, it won't go though the brake bracket and into the knuckle, if you used them all the weight would be supported by the bolts only, might be something different as I may be thinking about the dana 50 ttb vs. dana 60 spindle instead.

I have seen a spindle thread repair tool that opens up to go on the good threads away from the edge, you then back it off to repair the threads, not sure if it was big enough for 4wd spindles though.

Before you plan on thread repair, check the surfaces on the spindles where the bearings sit. Usually boogered spindle threads means someone didnt torque properly, the nuts backed loose, and the wheel/hub assembly slammed the wheelbearings around.

If you have to buy a tool, or have a machine shop chase threads, it wont be much more $$$ to just buy new ones.
