You do not want to meet this guy:rainbow: ... Stay far, far away!
He starts off all nice and friendly... Next thing you know he's trying to get in your pants; I didn't mind though!:flipoff2:
Oh, ah, ya- mine is a daily driver, but it's legal.
Scout Dude 08-29-2002, 10:28 PM I wouldn't call my Scout my DD, but I do drive it to work and stuff alot.
Never had any problems yet..although, I'm not fullwidth..but I do have beadlocks!
... when it's running. Else I drive one of two pimp mobiles.
My TJ was/is street legal, but it won't be after this round of winter mods ... close enough for governmant work though.
cm "flares ... we don't need no stinking flares" k
John H 08-29-2002, 10:48 PM I drive mine 2-3 times a week to work. The burb gets shitty gas mileage.
My rig is a daily driver. Its a Bronco II with fullwidth 3/4 ton axles. Cops give me crap about it alot. But i have to often point out that california rules dont apply here in nevada. No law agenst tires sticking way out :D Its gone from 35's then 36's suddenly 33's *had to pass vehicle inspection at DMV* and now 38 inch tires. Heh. The ride sucks with bump steer and ricers with a death wish pulling out infront of me. But ats all good. Strange enough, the massaged 302's gas milage is damn good. It gets me across town to work and back. And If i ever get the time, a nice rock filled trail. FYI, spools F/R are an interesting experance on the street. :D

Dude, you got the 38's on? Shit, I am way behind. By the time I even get matching gears and a front driveshaft, your beast will be way beyond the likes of mine. New plans though for me, I'm scrapping the rear Nissan H233B (9.2", 31 spline) in favor of a Rodeo D44 (I know it's a considerable downsize in strength, but I could break all the parts in the D44 twice before it would add up to the cost of one 5.13 Nissan ring and pinion set. Ever get that welder fixed, cause we got some work to do so you can have an off road buddy :D
See, 2wd can still be fun....i guess

drive mine everywhere and have no problem driving it 2000 miles, although it isnt as built as most
rear spool, front detroit, swampers and a nice vibration in the steering.
NICK
Grim Reaper 08-30-2002, 04:56 AM When it's nice and I can drop the top I'll drive my trail rig. I'm a firm believer that a vehicle that sits ends up screwing up. I drive the trail rig on the weekend a lot. It plenty dependable. Closest trail is over 1.5 hours at 70mph. Crappy gas milage and no A/C so I drive the Supra to work when it's hot.
My rig is a 75 GMC Jimmy(Dollar). 5 inches of lift front, 6 inches in the rear, 1 inch body lift, 35 inch BFG KM's, Detroit in the rear, Lockright in the front, pushing 5500lb. I bought the truck for ONE DOLLAR. The Dollar did not include floors but I did drive it home under it's own power. Took a year to cut out all the rust and replace the front floors all the way to the transmission tunnel.
I actually may fix the A/C :) It just has a bad clutch but it has freon.

Mine is my DD, drive it everyday and everywhere. But I'm planning on looking for a tow rig though...probably sometime next year. Driving this lugger around daily is getting old, especially after it's beat to hell.

Shipwreck 08-30-2002, 10:32 AM Wheeling your daily driver puts a whole new slant on building and designing a rig, and also determines how much crap you bring to the trails. My daily driver is my only vehicle. If I have a serious breakdown on the trail and can't fix it, I'm not getting home and I'm riding my bike to work everyday. (Like this week) Usually I'm loaded down with every spare part and tool in my garage. I've had to compromise on tires, axle width and engine specs because my rig has to be driven on the street every day.
 :beer:s to everyone out there who wheels their DD. It takes balls to run the hard lines knowing you have to drive 200 (or 1200) miles back home and make it to work the following day.
Chrisjeep7 08-30-2002, 12:13 PM wheeling a DD is not fun....i take hard lines and it adds a whole new level of pucker factor! that is why i am over bulding the hell out of my jeep to keep breakage to little stuff like DS and such...i will be running a d60 front and rear with 36's for a while...it HAS to be bomb proof! here is a pic

I just drove it to Tellico from Houston and back. In June I drove it to Moab and back, in October I'm driving it to Las Cruces, and next January I'm driving to Truckhaven. All in between 'local' trails here in texas, the closest good one being about 4 hours away. I would definately recommend towing if you have the cash though.

Muddin 08-31-2002, 11:04 AM I wheel my daily driver :D
One trip, I drove it 5hrs, competed, did decent, and drove it back :D
But I want a tow rig cause I want to be able to push my blazer a little closer to it's limits without worrying about how I'll get home.
Since this pic, I've cut the rockers out and put rocksliders in, chopped the top. I will be doing 63" springs in the rear and 57" springs up front and cross over steering. When I get to the point of needing it, I'll throw a d60 up front.

Fully.
H8monday 08-31-2002, 07:00 PM My rig is our second car.
My G.F. drives it on a daily basis, I drive it on the weekends all the time.
I just drove it up to Lake Tahoe and back today.
It still has blinkers, and brake lights (with switches to shut them off). The windshield has drilled out hinges so it can be removed quickly for competitions, and hard weekend wheeling. The 5.0 cruises nicely at 70 mph, and the hydro assist steering acts like the ultimate steering damper. The 105" wb keeps it tracking really well. The 38.50 x14.50 SX's arent to bad on the road if they are aired to about 25 psi and driven for a little while to get rid of the flat spots.
We drove it daily, in Roseville for a year and never got pulled over except one time when I had the windshield removed, and then it was just a warning. I drove by a couple of ElDorado County Sherriffs yesterday when I went for Pizza, and they only waved.
My girlfrind gets more looks then if she was driving a Ferrarri with her hair on fire, but she likes it.

My wheelbase is between 105" - 106".

UZI 9mm 08-31-2002, 10:57 PM first and only vehicle with 4 tires i've ever owned.
i didn't even have a car driver's licence until i bought it, only motorcycles from 1978 to 1991:D
daily driver.
Jeffh555 09-01-2002, 09:25 AM i dont have any good pics, but my cherokee is my daily driver, 36s, locked front spooled rear, but it isnt that bad.
i do get pulled over almost everytime a CHP see's me, the other night i was on my way to a party, and it took three CHPs to determine that all they could give me a ticket for was that my liscence plate light was out.
sometime within a month the cherokee will no longer be my DD, i'm getting a '99-00 Honda F4 (street bike)
Jeff
GJarrett 09-02-2002, 05:17 PM I'm 45 and wheel my DD, a '99 Eddie Bauer Explorer (it's okay to laugh, I've got thick skin :D )... last November I drove it 4500 miles from Dallas to the Slabs in Texas, then Moab, then AZ trails, then CA from Truckhaven up to Hollister Hills, then drove it home.
Yeah mine's not extreme but I enjoy taking my "soccer mom" grocery-getter and gettin' it awn on trails like Moab Rim or Hell's Revenge at Moab or Holy Cross in CO or Schoolbus at Tellico and watching everyone's reaction when they watch me do stuff they don't believe my vehicle can do :D -- and it has A/C, is purdier than yours (so far ;) ), and I can still drive home when it's over :D
I plan to run the Rubicon next year after another couple grand into the vehicle. I am fairly sure that I will provide lots of humor and entertainment to ya'll when I am there. :p Will I ever run the Hammers or Upper Helldorado in this thing? No, but it's kinda fun to shock onlookers with a sort of "sleeper" on fairly difficult trails.

bent70 09-02-2002, 06:23 PM I wheeled my dd on the con this weekend. Its a grand cherokee with a custom longarm suspesion, :crybaby: 32's, and a rear locker. Lets see, yesterday I bent all my control arms 1.75sch30 and sliped in a v-notch which resulted in mangling the whole driverside:mad: . today I ripped off the driverside rockslider, which is my falt because I rushed the welds friday when I made them. Plus I bent my tie rod pretty good.
Now I am back and my trail rig is in better condition than my dd which is getting put back on the drawing board.

I am actually applying for a second job for money for a tow vehicle.
90 YJ, with 94 body tub(totalled out in a wreck 5 yrs ago)
SOA, T98 four speed, 4.3 Atlas, HP44, 12 bolt, 37" SSRs.
The 37s are really hard on parts on a daily driver. They revealed the weak links very quickly, without hitting the trail, hence the Atlas, 1350 driveshafts, freshly built engine.
