i did a bit of searching on this and couldnt find anything really worth reading. so i thought i would make a thread for anyone else who may be wanting to do something similar.
i have a big bearing ford 9" out of a f-series/bronco. i have seen covers similar to this on toy axles, but hadnt seen too many options for ford9's. so i decided to give making my own a shot.
first was make a cardboard template. i didnt get any shots of it, but you can imagine what it looked like. its easy to change angles and trim edges to get it exactly how you want it if you cut it out of cardboard and dont tape up the ends. i just kept it open and bent it as i wanted.
then trace it out on whatever metal you plan to use. i used 1/4" steel. then plasma it out.
next i had no idea how i was going to get it to bend like i needed it to. and had no access to a break that was going to bend 1/4". so while cruising pirate one day i came across a picture that showed some stuff being bent in a little shop press. and i just so happened to have access to one.
so i cut all the joints with a grinder about half way through. you probably dont need to go that deep, but like i said, i thought i was going to have to heat it and bend it at first. i later welded up those joints after i had it bent to where i wanted it.
then stick it in the press and bend untill its where you want it. trim where needed and weld on! thats it.
on to the pics.
