So I finally got a scope mount for my FAL and I am torn on what kind of scope I want. I will be using it for target shooting mostly, the occasional hog or deer, and then zombies. Right now I am kinda leaning to an ACOG, but I like the looks of a "normal" scope as well. So what is everybody here have on theirs? Post pics if you have 'em.

With the 308 BDC the acog would be nice.

I would think a Nikon 4-12 with reticle of choice.

Leupold 2.5-8X Mark 4 MR/T

4x is OK but kinda tough for some on moving deer. I've whacked a bunch with a Leupold 4X fixed compact (old discontinued), but it has wider FOV and better eye relief than the newer models ( I also shoot both eyes open and the scope sits low, stock fit is perfect- dunno how adapting a scope rail to a boat anchor FAL will affect that).

3-9X might be good, if you got AO for target shooting (IMHO). They don't make a full size like that anymore (just the EFR compact model). SWFA claims the 3-9X MR/T is in use with troops.

I had a 3-9X tactical on a 700 in .243 and the lack of AO I didn't care for (run the old 3.5-10X 40mm AO VX3 on a Ruger #1 B in .22-250 and had the full size AO 3-9X VX2 on a 1B in .243).

They don't make the 3.5-10X VX3 with AO anymore(40mm front).

They do offer that power range in the side focus Mk4 though $$$$$.

What kind of mount did you get? Pops has a couple of shooter Argies (plus unfired Belgians).

I had a DSA on backorder for over a year and finally gave up. So far I am happy with the mount. It seems like decent quality and it mounts solid.

For others, since you have the GGP mount, a good one IMHO.

They had them in stock when no one else did. Regular mounts out of stock. Para maybe available. He is good about responding to emails. The Para mount will work on a regular FAL. Just store the rat-tail for the PARA for later usage if need be. Or sell it to someone with a regulat DSA mount that wants to use it on a para....

i have a DSA mount with a Millet DMS-1 (1-4x) on a Larue mount :eek:

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up just ordering a Burris Tac30 3-9x40. I am gonna try it out anyway. I have other stuff I can put it on if it doesn't go well with the FAL. It is OD green.... Hopefully it won't look :rainbow:. I have OD furniture on my FAL, so there's some hope it will look ok. :homer:

my FAL is multicolored and will prolly stay that way.

I have been thinking of some optics, but don't know how that will go...

I have the same mount on my FAL and it's been fine for the whole 2-times I've shot it since I built it. Got it from the same vendor, gun parts guy is a great source for parts.


Hell, I've got friends who've put more rounds through my FAL than I have. But it's held up to the average day of range shooting. Not sure how it holds up to chopping down trees though.


Only real difference I've noticed between that mount and the more expensive ones is the amount of screws used to tighten it down.

i use a leupold mill dot with a 168 bdc, shoots alittle high with 149ish bullets, sits on a gunpartsguy.com scope mount, happy with this set up.

well, you DID get married, that will cause amnesia...


looks great, mine is so many shades of grey, it almost looks camo.

my eyes are getting old, I think I may NEED glass on the FAL if I plan to shoot more than 200yds any more.
