: Rockstomper or Vanstomper?
randii 08-30-2002, 10:02 AM 4x4Wire's merry band of roving photographers Scott cruising the mall parking lot. This speedbump seems to have slowed the Mantis down to sane parking lot speeds. Kudos to the traffic safety engineers that designed it!

Check this gallery for more sequenced pictures of the same:

Enjoy!

randii 08-30-2002, 10:03 AM There are some other fun shots, too -- the standard action stuff, and then, as always, the breakage shots.... some less explainable than others:

RKCRAWLER 08-30-2002, 10:07 AM More like how the hell??? That one needs an explaination:D
LOL, you name it and she broke it...all 20' from the last gate of the last obstacle of the entire weekend too. Brakes, shaft, steering, balljoints, etc...and only 1 rear tire was spinnin'. OOPS.
RKCRAWLER 08-30-2002, 10:52 AM The Jeep looks as if it gave up. That is so quality breakage:flipoff2:
I Lean 08-30-2002, 01:29 PM Excellent, I've been waiting for these pics to surface. :-)
Doug K 08-30-2002, 01:35 PM Damn...she's the only driver there bigger than Lance... can you say Taco Bell? She should be spotting.
Scott@Rockstomper 08-30-2002, 02:59 PM Nice to see the evidence of me doing well on one obstacle that weekend... after the broken mainshaft the following day, and the rollover the day after that, I was wondering if my luck was just horrible.
Quite the urban 'wheeling shot. And the rest of the pics are really cool!
Chris Geiger 08-30-2002, 03:06 PM If is the new style of mall running, count me in!
Scott@Rockstomper 08-30-2002, 03:10 PM Aaron mentioned to me that at one point, I was actually battering dents in the van with my front driveshaft... :)
There's definitely something to be said for an approach angle that lets you drive straight up the side of a van, though. That sure was fun.
Chris, you're no stranger to the urban 'wheeling scene... you just gotta get out east, we've got plenty of big ugly things to go mallcrawling on. :)

Were you first up and over, Scott?
The van looked considerably flattened for the next driver:

I still want to know what the heck happended to the passenger front of that Jeep -- and how they continued to dig a trench with it... was it winched backward off an obstacle when it broke?

randii 08-31-2002, 02:08 PM Here's the front-end article to all these back-end pix:

They were dropping off the ledge in this pic:

The right front tire got wedged, like the vehicle in the pic. If I remember right, the axle/u-joint went first, then for whatever reason they couldn't crank the wheel left to get dragged down the ledge, which broke the balljoint(just one at that time), which most likely took out the brake line. They dragged it forward off the obstacle, all downhill, and then I would imagine they dragged it backwards to the trailer to make it easier, resulting in the trench you see in the pic above. I'm not sure what happened to the rear end, but as they were trying to drag it off the ledge I noticed that only one rear tire was spinning.
She also rolled a couple of times throughout the weekend. I think they definitely had Troy beat for the Neater Beater award, LOL(although Troys is definitely "neater").
