From the shaving legs thread, it seems there are quite of few on here that used to do tris and bike. What are you rollin? I'll start.

Rat~Man 03-30-2009, 11:44 AM Hardrock frame, pretty much everything else has been broken and tossed.
Road bike a is a 08 Trek 1.5. So far the only victim has been a crankset under warranty. Glad to see I'm not the only one sporting the white bar tape. :grinpimp:
Never Monday 03-30-2009, 12:13 PM used to ride a lot in my 20's. Now I ride on Sat and Sun with my 5yo. Mostly on an old Cannondale 3.0 circa 1990 ish. Way old school, friction down tube shifters and toe clips.
Alex123456 03-30-2009, 12:56 PM I raced a LeMond Alpe D'Huez the last few years, like the one in the picure except clear coated instead of blue. I've done a few upgrades, wheels, saddle, etc. Sadly, it looks like LeMond is gone. I'm switching to tri's this year, the swimming should be interesting.
unimog 03-30-2009, 02:07 PM My road bike is a Stowe with Dura ace 9 speed components. The bike is a double butted chromoly lugged custom frame made in Rochester, NY. It is an old frame I found at the bike shop and I built it with new components.
My mountain bike is a GT RTS 1 with all XT stuff. This is an old aluminum full suspension frame with a chomoly rear triangle that I bought new years ago and rebuilt a few years back. The GT is a great riding bike and has held up great. They screwed it up when they went with the aluminum rear triangle, you hit the chainstay with the crank when under torque. I took two bikes to make one using the newer Taiwan main frame and the older US chromoly triangle. I did break the chromoly triangle once and had to weld it. The bike has seen some severe abuse over the years and that was the only failure, well major failure. I have broke most everthing at one time or another. I broke the seat off once in the woods and I could never find it. I had to ride home standing up or take it up the ass. I stood up.
Protecsafari 03-30-2009, 02:36 PM MTB Fuji Tahoe Pro, a couple of years old. Been OK but for a few minor repairs.
Got it closeout from my bud's shop, was a pretty sweet deal.
TJGreg5 03-30-2009, 02:40 PM specialized roubaix, all carbon.....isss niiiiiceeeee
Shawnboy 03-30-2009, 03:31 PM I ride a Cannondale Bad Boy Ultra. I know. It's a performance hybrid but it is fast and just screams "steal me".
I replaced all the Sram components with XTR, got rid of the girly stock grips for Yeti lock ons and tossed the Contis for some Michelins.
animator 03-30-2009, 03:43 PM edited to add pics.

crazy4ih 03-30-2009, 04:16 PM MTB: 1998 Specialized S-works. Frame only. I have replaced everything else with newer XTR components. Mavic Crossmax XL tubless wheels and Rockshox Sid Race shock. I love this bike, but it is time to replace it I think....
Road: Nothing at the moment. I used to have a Torelli something or other and a Peugot (sp.?) St. Tropez back in the day. They were stolen from my garage and I never replaced them.
synovus 03-30-2009, 07:12 PM I don't ride anymore, but I've held onto my "sentimental" bike... a ~35 yr. old Italian-made Masi with original Campy groupo. I'll have to see if I can find some pics. They may be on the dead hard drive.
Is there much of a market for older used parts? I've got some mid-90's stuff (chains, spokes, cassettes, cranksets, etc.) that I inherited when my dad passed away. I've been meaning to find them a loving home, but haven't really taken the time to do it as of yet.

D_JEEPER 03-30-2009, 07:25 PM I had a 2007 Jamis Ventura Comp that i used to rehab when i got hit by a car on my mountain bike. Now i have a Raleigh Mojave 5.0 with some upgrades...

I'll keep ya in mind, but honestly, the likelihood of me getting rid of it is next-to-none. It's got a huge amount of sentimental value. I've had it for going on 20+ years now, and its one of the few things my father (an avid cyclist who passed away about 10 years ago) bought me that I still have. Even if I never ride again, I'm always going to want to have it if for nothing more than to remind me of some of the great times he and I shared on rides when I was growing up.
Wheelr 03-30-2009, 10:32 PM Custom built CrossCheck. It has 28mm slicks on it now.

Spring is here, so I will be back on the road with my bike. It isn't a road bike, but it see more time there then off road. I figure it's easier to ride a mountain bike on road, then a street bike off.
MY GF rides a Marin. It's a good bike, but not what she should have been sold, it doesn't fit her at all. I want to buy her a new bike this summer, but we'll see how that goes. I maybe buying a house instead.
Scott@Rockstomper 03-30-2009, 10:40 PM More and more reminders to get my road bike back out and get myself back into shape... '91ish Bianchi, I'm sure it'll need all new rubber and everything that moves, lubed, but it was in pretty nice shape when I hung it up.

Do it, you won't regret it. I stopped riding for winter and have been regretting it. I am itching to ride and hope to get one in this weekend (my weekends are Tues-Thurs). I need to find the new neck I bought at Summers end and install it.
Wheelr 03-30-2009, 10:47 PM fixed gear of freewheel?
Freewheel. It's a Surly F/F hub which has the option to place a fixed gear on the other side.

Very understandable.
Protecsafari 03-31-2009, 05:57 AM My cruiser is an old 50's Schwinn Typhoon frame with a Gary Fisher threadless MTB fork up front (I reamed the threaded top cap to clear and then made a spacer to go over the fork's lower race-pick up the taper and have the lower reg cup trap the bearing).
I then took some MTB flat bars-short and put loc on grips. Runs a short stem too.
Old chrome springer style black seat (not too big) gives it a kinda sorta rat rod look (what was planned).
It sits tall, has the original S script seat post clamp, crank. I buffed the ages of crud off those and left them kinda matte finish. I slapped some black alloy MTB pedals on it, run it on 2" MTB claws, blacked out rims with chrome spokes, bike is flat black all over........cept for the neon orange forks.
Came out pretty cool.
Wermz 03-31-2009, 06:57 AM I sold all my bikes to help pay for my 4x4. It's been a few years since I've been in the saddle, looking at a custom Ti Independent Fabrication frame.
rugburn 03-31-2009, 07:26 AM Old Cioocc road frame, full Super Record Campy, G40 Mavics. the college USCF bomber.
I am living in the land of Breaking Away and I better get more road miles in.
I built a fixed gear rear wheel, so my cadence and form should return ASAP
Isley 03-31-2009, 08:05 AM MTB - 1998 (or 99) Schwinn Rocket 88 with Avid mechanical disks added.
Road - An old Trek that I bought off a coworker for a couple of hundred.
Cruiser - 08 Diamondback Della Cruz (This bike is a more fun to ride than the other two combined).
Looking to get back into biking again this summer.
Scott@Rockstomper 03-31-2009, 08:47 AM Great... back into another time-consuming activity I don't have the time or money for... except that this one *might* be nearly free, and good for me.
So I pulled my road bike down off the hooks in the garage this morning. It's filthy; it's been hanging there since... umm... yeah... probably since I bought the house. That'd be spring 2000.
A liberal soaking of the chain and derailleur pivot points with PB Blaster (hey, it's better than WD40, and at this point, the chain needs more solvent than lube anyway), and it seems mechanically sound. The tires even reinflated without blowing up (yet) or even showing signs of cracks. Am I dumb enough to ride on fifteen-year-old tires? Stay tuned...
And a few minutes on Google nets me that the battery for the little Avocet computer... is discontinued. By law. More than a decade ago. Contains mercury, in no small quantity. The replacement... is discontinued too. But the replacement for the replacement, is the same battery my digital calipers use. And I have spares of spares for that, because the calipers use one, and they're sold in three packs. The speedo calibration numbers are even still floating around on the web.
Gotta dig through my dresser drawers and see if I still have some antique Spandex... like the neighbors didn't already think I was nuts...

Ive got 2 700C x23 take offs, about 400 miles on them from my Trek. You can have them if you pay shipping.
So I gotta ask, is putting on old spandex going to be like shoving 10 pounds of shit into a 2 pound bag? I know I put my road shorts on a few weeks ago and was surprised at my gain over the winter. :( Even my wife was pointing and laughing.

Mine's on 700x28's, I'd imagine 23's would be a bit narrow, but acceptable, on there. I can send a UPS call tag for them if you want to PM me a weight (bathroom scale is close enough) and a pickup location.
On the Spandex side, I dunno. I'm actually still wearing the same size pants as I wore in high school, but I've lost muscle tone (or worse) since college. Pointing and laughing is probably fair game regardless, it's not like I've ever had much of a body anyway (5'11"/150ish). Maybe I'll wear regular shorts over the Spandex--get the benefit of the butt padding, without the embarrassment of my present lack-o-body being out there for everyone to be mentally scarred by seeing.
Do they even still make water bottles for these things? I've got the water bottle holders, does everybody just have a Camelbak now?
Midwestzj 03-31-2009, 09:42 AM Dude, no roadies would be caught with a camelbak on. I don't know why but they just will not wear them.
I just finished building a Specialized S-works cross bike will 09 SRAM RIval and Zipp wheel :smokin:
MTB is a Specialized Enduro with full SRAM X.0

It's not aero enough. :flipoff2: Seriously, I've read about wind tunnel tests that show most road bikes are more aerodynamic with bottles in the holders. Not like it would make a difference with me on the bike.
animator 03-31-2009, 10:08 AM Do they even still make water bottles for these things? I've got the water bottle holders, does everybody just have a Camelbak now?
I've been using my camelbak when mtn biking here lately, mainly because I haven't picked up any cages for my Jamis yet. But also, I've ran out of water on some of the longer trails with my Trek before, so I've been trying to carry extra.
On the road, I stick with just bottles. For this year's Hotter n Hell Hundred, I'll probably do both bottles and camelbak.
Rat~Man 03-31-2009, 12:11 PM I ride with a camelbak. But I ride 75 and 100 miles at a time. Bottles don't get it.
EDIT, that on the road. Gives me a nice place to hide a gun.
Protecsafari 03-31-2009, 05:33 PM Nobody I know runs a bottle on the trail, too frickin' muddy/dirty.
Camelbacks all the way.

I ride with the same Camelbak on the road or mtn biking..FTW:flipoff2: I prefer the Camelbak anyway. I tend to carry a ton of shit, patches, tube, multi tool, CO2 and adaptor, pump, Kel-Tec P11, snacks, ID, phone, and 90oz of water. Besides, with my fat ass I'm not to worried about aerodynamics or weight.
I'm riding a Spesh Sequoia now but I'm looking to get a Rocky MTN Solo CXD. I mainly want to go to discs and once I add in the costs of hubs, rotors, BB7's, rear adaptor, and front fork, I'm at damn near the cost of the RM.
M.Martian 03-31-2009, 08:36 PM Used to race back at UCLA in 94. I built up a 94 F.Moser aluminum frame with Shimano 600 group.
Used to also ride a 92 Specialized Rock Hopper Comp, but have retired that to a 06 Giant Rainier.
I've also got an old 84 Peugeot something or other that has been converted to a pseudo-single speed.
flip124 03-31-2009, 10:02 PM There's a couple bling bikes on here. It must be all the web wheelers. :flipoff2:
I hate my Allez but it's tough finding a bike that's even big enough for someone that's 6'6", much less fits perfectly.
I'm thinking about upgrading to one of these this year.

Oh and camelbacks suck for the roadie. If anything I would run two cages on the frame and if you're really worried about running out you can put a couple more under the seat. The trails around here all have water fountains and they run forever. They are putting in a new 100 mile loop. :smokin: I just stick an extra tube, multitool and ID in my jersey. The CO2 is strapped to the frame.

I have the opposite problem, I an 5'4 on a good day, but I have midget legs, this was the only one I found close enough for me, and we still had to change the neck. but it rides great
this is the only pic I have on this computer but you get the point

The 64 cm frames from Trek fit me pretty well. 6'6" with a 35" inseam. I could use a little more seat tube but overall, very comfy.

My mom's husband is a big 6'6" and has a custom Merlin. $$$$, but it fits and holds up to him.

I tried riding a 1000 when I bought my Allez and didn't like it. It wasn't even as comfortable as the specialized was so it would have been miserable.
I found a new LBS with an owner that really knows his shit (plus gives me discounts on EVERYTHING) and have been eying a Masi or Scott.

Yeah the "$$$$" thing is the killer. I'm in college with 3 rigs (trail rig, DD and rolled DD) and two bikes already. I need to pick less expensive hobbies. :homer:

I hear ya, the 1000 was the old style frame. The new frames are more like the Pilot in the relaxed geometry wuth the addition of being a 'compact' style that adds some stiffness.
My old ride was a Trek 1220. Very 'racy' geometry and uncomfortable as hell. I then bought a Specialized Robauix. Too small in the leg and WAY too much flex in the frame. Then within 100 miles the wheelset started coming apart so I had the wheels replaced under warranty and sold it. I had ridden a 1.2 Pilot and really liked the feel, they carried the Pilot geometry over to the 1.2 and the 1.5 so rather than buy a old model for more money, I bought the 1.5 and went the next week and rode the MS150. Very comfortable experience once I swapped back to the Selle saddle. Then I bent the crankset. (damn FSA) and they swapped on a 105 for me. So far, everything ele has been great. I've even gotten to like the Sora shifters more than the Dura ace on the old bike.
Other than shit tires out of the box and the FSA crank being to flexy in a 175 the bike is a great buy. I rode a friends Time and that thing beat my ass to death. Fast but damn its WAY too stiff and loud as fuck.
Seth is sponsored by Scott on snow mobiles. He got a Scott cross bike he really likes. He is a normal sized guy though.
