I saw a Yota at the MCR2 that had a square tube front drive shaft ,it looked like a cheap way to get a long travel shaft. Has anyone else tryed this... And if so how did it work.. And yes I know it wouldnt be balanced ,this would be all off road:confused:

And I thought I was a tightwad .
If its for offroad, then whats to stop you using a shaft with two slip joints for some extra travel .

I have a buddy that runs a double slip yoke shaft in front, and he plans on going to a square shaft. According to his local driveline shop, the dbl yoke shaft won't balance. Square shaft doesn't either, but ya get tons more travel. :D

I'm with 5spd -- my double-slip shaft actually balances fine, as well...

If you run tight slipyokes, you should have no difficulty balancing it...

my friend used two slip yokes and it sucked. after a little while it would slip easier on one side and unplug. reciever tube is very strong and cheap. my square shaft made some noise but who could feel the shaft out of balance when your haulin ass on a surface that needs 4wd?:p

I would much rather have thick square tube sittin on a rock than double slips.. The rocks would tear them up.

I'm OK with your 'druthers... but speaking from experience, the rocks haven't torn mine up in years.

I'll run what I have and what works... it is done and paid for already, and I built it before the square shafts became all the rage. :p

YMMV, but this front d-shaft setup has worked well for me for years... I hope you and your square shaft are very happy. :p

Ok, call me stupid:flipoff2: , but wouldnt a square tube be harder to turn when its resting on a rock? Or does it not pose a problem:confused:
