: Funky Exhaust Nut Clip

When removing the Y pipe in my 85 Ramcharger I came across a clip that was designed to retain the nut for the bolts that connect the Y pipe to the headers. The clip was old and didn't work very well in it job of holding the nut, it also became mangled during removal.

What is this clip called? Should I replace it with the same thing? Is there a better solution to the issue (it is very hard to access the nuts with tools)?

Thanks

When I went to get a replacement at the dealership they just gave me some grade 8 bolts with nylocks. I assume your y pipe setup is the same as mine since its a complete bitch to get to but just use extensions to get up in there.

Same here, just replaced it with new hardware.

Seems like nylon would melt or at least get real soft. Maybe a crimped style lock nut would be better.

I don't think a nylock is gonna help much on the exhaust. Probably just burn up the nylon insert.l

I didnt say it would last, thats just what was given to me by the dealer. The bolt is going to rust up and make itself lock on from the heating and cooling.
